I went out to buy my first motorcycle some 720 km from the place I live and rode it back home. Other than the motorcycle course that I took 6 months ago, I had no real prior experience. The model is Honda CBF 250 (yes... a small bike) and the experience was unique and exhausting. So yeah, I rode my first (dirt cheap) bike with some mechanical issues across Romania.
I was fortunate enough to make it back home safe, as I knew the bike's flaws and limits as well as mine and as a result, I rode within the "safety parameters" that I've set. And if you think my riding was too slow, it's fine... that's how I wanted it to be, and I kept it that way till I got home. Nevertheless, it was a huge risk that I undertook and if anyone asks me why... well I guess simply because I wanted to. I cannot explain why. I knew I had to take on this adventure...
All that being said, I want to stress out a few of things for the new riders out there:
1. Wear protective gear at all times.
2. Be aware of both you and your bike's limits. And respect those limits.
3. Don't imagine that such a long trip is awesome because it ain't. After 200km you feel like just dumping the bike and going back home on a bus or something.
4. Don't do this. And if you're going to anyways... well then you better commit to it 100%.
5. Spend the night over somewhere but not on the road. Don't be like us. We were fools not to consider the fatigue factor.
I also want to thank my crazy buddy Adrian for supporting me in this adventure. I may have rode 750 km on the bike, but the MAN drove 1500km in 28 hours and kept my ride safe. He's the one with the silver car in front of me most of the times. And we made a promise not to try this stuff ever again. Thanks bro!
