Hey Jack, question, what was your grade 11 average? I’m in grade 12 rn and I only got around a 90 percent average, and I want to major in CS like you - a dual degree with Business from Sauder UBC, any other info you have for me? Thank you

@@JackHeTech Oh my bad, forget to say that 90 percent was my grade 11 average, my grade 12 average is still pending as I just started my grade 12 year, and am taking 5 APs: AP Calc 1, AP CS, AP Stats, AP Physics 1, and AP Macroeconomics, do you recommend I do anything else external for a “competitive advantage?” Thank you Jack

Nyle Hassan 5 AP classes is good. Shows you can handle a college workload. Just don't flunk any of them and you should be good. With that being said, AP marks still aren't as important as your grade 12 average. So focus on that first then AP.

If you wanna major in CS make sure your math grades are top notch and your computer science grades are good to ensure that you will do well in CS. I have heard from my friends it can be heavy in work. Also make sure your other core subjects are decent above 88 average to be safe and atleast 4 extracurricular activities. I am a CAPS major student at UBC just saying, google CAPS if you wanna know the longform lol.

Hey. I am trying to go to Computer science at UBC as it is my dream school I got some questions to ask you. I am currently in grade 11 and I want to get good grades(92-95%) in all of my subjects. Like you, I wasn’t getting that good of a grade. Is there any tips you can give me to get good grades and make it to where I want to be? How did you go from getting C and Ds to getting 99 in math and over 90 and every subject? Love your vids man, got yourself a sub

thanks for the support! You definitely want to max / min your time in grade 12. There are a lot of BS courses highschool makes you take. My advice is don't let those BS courses take time away from courses that matter. If you're aiming for CS, math - science - and English should be your main focus. Also remember that you must also learn to take tests effectively. Believe it or not, taking exams is a separate skill in of itself. Teachers don't talk about it, but being a good test taker (and assuming your knowledge level stays the same) you're guaranteed an extra 5~10%.

@@jamesnam918 if ur doing regular school courses then, at least for math physics and chem, I’d say do all the questions on ur textbooks, I mean ALL, not just the parts ur teachers assign. Hey Jack. I am a domestic IB student applying for CS in UBC with 31 points (not sure if you are familiar with IB), which is roughly ~87% in my 12th year predicted grade with a 6 points (A-) in Computer Science HL course. For safety, I applied UBCV BA (first chocie) and UBCO BSc (second choice). I don't think that I have much of a chance for getting admitted into UBCV BA, but maybe for UBCO BSc I might stand a chance. What do you think about my % of getting admitted to both courses? Thank you so much bro I would be appreciated if I can get a response!

Hello there I am a grade 11 student who is going to grade 12. My grade 11 marks were 87% for Pre Calculus 11, 89% for Physics 11, 91% for Chemistry, 86% for Spanish 11, 79% for Computer Coding 12, 78% for English 11, and 66% for Art Class. I am really worried, but do understand that UBC puts more emphasis on your grade 12 mark in the selection process. Lets say I were to make my average increase to around 90% would I be safe for admission? I know that it is quite competitive, and I believe the requirement for this year was mid 90s, which makes me quite worried. I have around 100 hours from volunteering at my local Salvation Army Centre and 20 hours with school clubs. What are your suggestions for what to do? My ultimate goal is to get a field in the engineering area, or maybe computer sciences.
@willdeng7669

I think is going to be a tough but definitely worth of shot. Make sure to ace your personal profile and choose a less competitive program as your second choice or choose ubc okanagen. That should increase your chances. You can’t really fix your grade 11 grades so just do better in grade 12. Good luck 🎉

With regards to ECs, I work in a lab during the summer at a compounding pharmacy (I have good references there), and I am planning to do writing for a technology website. Do you feel this is enough for Computer/Electrical engineering? Thank you very much, Regards.

Hi Raman! Don't waste your time with Tim Hortons unless u really need the money. See if you can get into a youth Hackathon (devpost.com). Once you get in, network as much as possible, and try winning some prizes too. Also, there are a bunch of case competitions where u just pitch to local businesses and whatnot. Also btw, since ur in grade 10 -> 11, I would aim for Stanford / UCs if you can. I am not sure if it's too late to take SATs or ACTs, but def look into that and figure out if it's possible.
