It might have been a dosage issue. Replacing estrogen is not just about fixing temporary issues. It's the long term we need to think about. When we lose estrogen, we are at high risk for osteoporosis, heart disease and Alzheimer's. I, too, used to think I would go all natural. But my maternal aunt had severe osteoporosis, she was walking with a cane in her 50s. I am barely finalizing perimenopause, and my joints are very painful. As for sticking with nature's plan... With that frame of mind, we would have never made advances in medecine. You know what nature's plan is? Death, preceded by all sorts of illnesses. While you can't, ultimately, avoid death, I think that postponing it as much as possible while optimizing my health is a much better plan.

I had them run ALL my blood & tons of hormones. I had a partial hysterectomy at 42. I'm 52. I stopped working out & had been MISERABLE including unable to eat, sleep or function in general. As a new trainer this was terrible. My doc looked at my FSH and Estradiol levels & I'm well past and/ or IN menopause. I started taking Estradiol mid July & it CHANGED MY WHOLE LIFE. Finally eating is better, sleep has improved. I lost 5 lbs immediately & remember I bareky can workout-just walking. Almost no flashes or sweats. I finally feel like working out again. I'm grateful that you are sharing your journey. For the other ladies, please don't be scared of HRT, but please advocate for yourself. 💚

One of the best decisions I have made in a very long time. I tried the natural route for years, but it didn't work for me. And after much research, I decided on HRT, eating healthy and working out. I feel like a new person. I don't talk about it with anyone especially women because they don't want to hear anything about HRT. So forgive me for going on about it. ❤

I was prescribed the gel in Jan 2019. Weaned myself off of it in March 2020 (after speaking with my Gyn and Pharmacist). I gained 50 lbs regardless of my diet and exercise and it immediately caused multiple cysts in my breast. My Primary Dr expressed grave concerns and asked if I absolutely needed the HRT. I insisted on continuing the gel until 2020. The HRT absolutely helped my other symptoms of menopause--which none of my doctors even believed I was in; I had to insist on hormone levels being tested--but the weight gain was creating other problems. I've completely changed my lifestyle since then and have lost that extra 50 lbs. Just wanted to share my experience with the gel. 😊⚜️

While I am sleeping better and hot flashes have lessened I don’t see any gains with my workouts. 😩😩😩😩😩😩

Melissa, I used patches for years and after Covid, then tried pellet injections, with a different Dr who added T, but the T made me gain lots of weight and increased my blood pressure. Be careful of adding T, as far as I know in the US, it's only available in pellets for women. I have been doing HRT for 10 years and very happy with the results until I switched to the pellets and added T. I switched to a daily gel for estrogen, daily progesterone and off the T. The extra weight and bloating is coming off nicely and I feel so much better.

@Aarticqn

I was just going to write the same thing. Aging and the depletion of certain hormones is NORMAL. Somehow the Dr's and Pharmaceutical companies have convinced women that they "NEED" HRT. So Hrt actually goes against the natural functioning of a woman's body. Anything to get women on certified "medicine" for decades. I ccn hear the cash register going Ch-chang! Is there a age where they say no more Hrt is needed?

If we all adhered to "letting nature take its course", we would have never made advances in medicine and extended our life expectancy. We now live in a society where we take it for granted that we will live to 90 or 100. Nowadays, we consider dying at 70 to die young - never mind 50. But you can be sure we didn't get there by " letting nature take its course. "

@@sabreecarpenter4285 I'm not sure if it's OTC, it was prescribed by my gyn doctor. I had terrible hot flashes, 6 or 7 an hour, that would last several minutes. After I started the gel, I might have 5 or 6 a day. I'm finally able to sleep through the night without waking up on fire and soaked in sweat. And I didn't have to wait for it to build up in my system, the effects were noticeable after a couple of days. It's applied on the wrist and rubbed in up the arm to the shoulder. I exercise alot, weights and running, I found gel useless, I got an initial hit that depleted far too quickly, usually after 4 hours, I split my dose morning and night but struggled still when I dipped and bloods showed I absorbed less, I actually think I read it absorbs into fat and I did wonder at the time whether I just didn't have enough fat left to hold the dose I needed, I moved to Everol patches and found they fell off with exercise, then found Estradot on my tummy these take me to 350 and I feel a steady 350, I'm now waiting to see and NHS Meno specialist to increase the dosage as the GP has me on max licensed dose, but it's manageable now, I'd make a guess that my progesterone is low, based on my cycle and I know my testosterone is low I had a private blood test, but I live in an area that Gp's can't prescribe it, only a specialist. Try different products, but bear in mind my comments just in case.

Good luck with your adjustments. HRT rocks if it is compounded (custom made doses) just for you which is the standard where I live and I've never even heard of this kind of precision anywhere on Harley Street. Also using a naturopath that practices eastern medicine can be very helpful because you have the best of both worlds. Also staying on top of your thyroid functioning. But I think the key to optimum treatment is that you need your bloods done 3-4 times a year so the treatment corresponds to lifestyle and what your body needs. A naturapath and anti-ageing DR have been essential to me

Be careful with HRT! My mother was diagnosed with estrogen receptive breast cancer at age 58 attributed to HRT. Now I am in menopause and will never take it. (She survived thankfully! )

My GP has put me on HRT 3 weeks ago without even taking bloods. Should I request blood tests? I'm on 25mg patches for estrogen and 100mg progesterone.

There are herbal options that the body can assimilate and metabolize better then the synthetic hormones you may be taking. Consider the herbal options in addition to certain foods that help the body manufacture it's own estrogen.

I’m not sure if the U.S. has menopause clinics, but that would have been wonderful to receive some attention when things were at the worst. I’m post menopausal at 45. Perimenopause started at 37. I requested hormones in July and am taking a low dose of e & p. My estrogen was at 37 prior. I also grind up flaxseed and try to eat it daily. I wonder what my levels are like now 🤔?. They never scheduled a follow up. I can’t imagine letting “nature take it’s course” at 45. I already suffered through symptoms for 8 years. I want the heart & bone protection among many other benefits.
