Top tip…….before your first burn, get a microfibre cloth and clean all of the surfaces to remove any sticky finger marks or factory oils, otherwise they burn into the metal and look unsightly. I actually sprayed a bit of WD40 onto my cloth to help with this as that is recommended for cleaning stainless steel!…….Anyway, I now have a nice looking golden patina after many burns. Ps you must do this before the very first burn or it will be too late!

@@loriglennon6653 No problem. As I am a bit of a sad sack I keep re-doing mine after a few burns. I still have a very nice looking stove after many many burns. I also feel that the WD40 will help keep any potential external rust away.

Great content! I just received my solo stove ranger yesterday. It was my my gift for 25 years at my workplace. The ranger I have is identical to the one you demonstrated, less the stand. I will find one pronto. Thanks for the great overview on the solo stove, I am eager to try it out.

Did you not watch your video back. There was smoke, granted not as much as an open fire. You’ll find with this type of fire you will get smoke initially until it gets going. Solo always have offers on so to me indicates the RRP price point is too high. I emailed them with this point and they acknowledged the email. When they price accordingly I’d buy and sure they’d get more sales. Good bit of kit though

Yes I did and before publishing I tested it again. I think it’s to do with the 2nd burn and sporadically it does have some smoke, possibly the air flow maybe. It is a good bit of kit and was actually genuinely surprised how good it really is. Price at the moment with the free stand over the whole range is good.

We have the Ranger 1.0. Our issue is that most local firewood available is too long and cutting the firewood to length is not worth the effort. The Solo smokes if the wood sticks out the top.

It is brilliant. There was a small amount of smoke, which was intermittent. It can happen when the flames get high and the 2nd burn doesn’t happen.

That was the first time I used it. The “2nd burn” is from the air flow around the top, if the flames are too high, there is a little smoke.

After the first burn there was no soot inside. Sure occasionally there are some fumes, is you stand right over it, if it has got going. Afterwards my clothes or hair don't smell of smoke. That's good enough for me.

Thank you for creating this video, very helpful. In terms of smell, can you smell that you are burning fire? We live in apartment complex and we have a big yard and I want to know if you would be able to really smell that there is a bonfire outside. Thank you!

great video. :) how far did the heat radiate? i'm wondering if this will provide 4-5 feet of heat radius with the heat deflector for backyard use.

It depends, if BBQ’s are allowed and you use the cooking grill, it’s effectively a BBQ, however if they state charcoal BBQ’s like some do, then possibly no.

I mentioned this in a later video talking about the Bonfire. Smoke can be caused by a few things, the wood being too high so it doesn’t get the second burn (the second burn is what makes it practically smokeless), insufficient airflow (dirty fire pit) or in this case wet wood. If the wood isn’t completely dry, it even the second burn can burn the moisture off
