Never had any of these issues with any of my L5ps or even my 2024. While I was a diesel tech at gm for a bit I had a bunch of 21-22 L5ps sitting in the lot down for def heater issues and the fix was just programming that needed done, issue was most people couldn’t get the truck in the shop in time and the reductant heater fried itself. The exact same message popping up on your dash but was permanently stuck. I highly doubt it’s your def heater because that issue has been resolved but has happened before. As for fuel economy the best I’ve gotten on highway is with my 2024 Denali HD 3500 SRW I have about 2k miles and highway I’m around 18.7 and city around 10.5-12. The next best I’ve had was my 2022 and it was deleted getting 17-18. The exhaust brakes on these newer L5ps work really well once it sees a steeper grade or you tap the brakes a few times.

The exhaust brake works best with the cruise control activated. Pre select a speed going down hill and it will use both the grade braking and the exhaust brake to hold your selected speed. It does activate when the switch is turned on after you touch the brakes but I’ve found the cruise control method works best. Re: emissions problems Assuming you have not got a bad sensor (which is likely my 2021 has had multiple failed sensors), the emissions system on these trucks is a calculated % based on driving conditions. I could be burning down the highway loaded right up and it will almost run a passive regen when driving. I can go 12 hours and not see a regen cycle. Then let’s say I hit a city at 75%, the stop and go traffic will rapidly change the calculation and bump me up to 100% in less than an hour. Which is horrible because it can’t do a regen cycle while in stop and go traffic. It needs a sustained speed of about 45 miles an hour minimum for approximately 30-45 minutes to complete a regen cycle once it has begun. Soot levels will accumulate fast in the city and it will do one regen per tank on average in my experience. On the highway towing I can go a 1000 miles or more before it might regen. I use the bluedriver to monitor all this so I don’t interrupt a regen cycle if it can be avoided. The ONE option I want to see is the ability to manually regen while on the highway. That would make life so much better for me and the emissions system. If I was getting close to my destination and knew I was close to a regen I would love to be able to initiate a regen 45 minutes before I get to where I’m going so I can shut the thing off and not worry about the 1100 degrees exhaust burning down the grassy fields I might have to drive through.

I’ve worked a lot with big fleets and our GM and Dodge trucks constantly experience exhaust issue’s really fast when pulling trailers. They still do when not pulling just not as fast. Needless to say they spend more of their life in the service center than on the road. Blame the government for that. While all trucks have their problems our fords have stayed on the road much longer as well as handle the heavy loads much better all without exhaust issues de-rating the truck. If you didn’t want the big screen then buy the base model.

So a brand new Duramax gets less than 10 mpg but the 13 Chevy dually vortex we haul with gets 12mpg with 20k lbs behind it. What the crap is that🤦🏻

The miles to the gallon is some the driver and some the truck if you step on it like if you have to be going 60 in 5seconds then it won’t get good mileage my 2019 chevy l5p gets good highway but around 14 with trailer mine runs to Sarasota on 2 1/2 tanks of diesel at 32 gallon tank and burn outs are always gonna cause issues you play you pay

These new vehicles are just overpriced POS. If I have $90,000 to spend it wouldn't be on these new ones.

My truck went crazy when the Trailer brake controller went bad. The engine brake was coming on when not needed. Had a transmission history code with no check engine. But still love GM trucks.

I've always bought new until recently. I bought an '03 dually, 6 speed, coal burning, glacier melting F350 with no rust. I won't have a problem with putting in $10K - $15K. I'm petty sure I'll have a better truck than anything that can be bought new today.

Fuel mileage sucks because you’re beating the hell out of it while it’s trying to do a regen to clean the dpf and you keep shutting it off before it’s finished. Your Snapon scan tool won’t scan it because it’s a serial data gateway style diagnostic system and you trying to scan it using pins 6-14 on the high speed lan is fucking up models casing your communication codes. Actual GM tech I know from experience
