At 67 years old, and 50 years on and off in animal rescue, PSTD had become a limiting issue in my life- until I adopted Mountain Spirit.
Spirit was an injured, starving, terrified dog on a reservation, who had never been touched. It took 31 days to trap him, and another year before he was comfortable being touched. Working with Spirit inspired me, as he came through his many daily challenges to learn to be a companion, to work through my issues also. Everything was easier for me to do, if Spirit was with me, and we entered service dog training
so that he could be with me wherever I went. Today, through our daily walks, and Spirit going with me to yoga classes and the gym,
I have shed 50 pounds, and Spirit and I have transported hundreds of homeless pets to no-kill shelters, and Spirit is with me whenever I give a presentation to civic groups, such as Rotary, Kiwanis, etc. Mountain Spirit goes to our fundraisers, such as the Christmas Jubilee 3-day plant sale, and is like a movie star when he helps to deliver pet food to area food banks. He is in all of our Facebook posts, inspiring people to commit to their pets, and find the magic in them. Recently, Spirit helped to rescue and transport dozens of displaced pets during the June fires and floods in Ruidoso, NM, and received a recent award from the Lt. Governor, as well as a 'Local Hero Award.' Mountain Spirit embodies the best of 'man's best friend,' has inspired hundreds of people to adopt reservation dogs and shelter dogs, to take better care of their pets, to spay and neuter their pets at our spay-neuter events, and is a daily joy to everyone he meets. Sunny Aris, Mountain Spirit's Best Friend.
