It's difficult to properly explain. But this intro holds a somewhat 'mystic' quality to it that really stood out in the 80s. And it still has that very same pull to this day. The exotic music, the atmosphere it conjures up, the visuals, and even the narrator's voice. All come together to transport you to another time and place. No cynicism, just pure escapist adventure.

It’s soooo strange how theme songs from your childhood stays in our minds no matter how much time has passed by. I’m 46 now, but I remember being 10 and watching this on the Cartoon Network with my siblings. I don’t know what specifically it is that captures of memories. Is it the people from that time, the era, the mentality we had where a child is worry free or perhaps all the above. What a blessing. If I had a Time Machine, I’d go back to 10😊

I got so emotional when I went to Peru a few years ago. Lake Titicaca moved my heart, but I was in tears when reaching Machu Picchu at the end of 1:47 the Inca trail. I loved that anime so much that, as tired as I was on the last 2km of the trail, I put that opening (in French though..) on repeat and gave all that I left in my body. I rushed to make sure that I reached the nice viewpoint at the end of the commentary. People thought I was crying because of the effort, then never understood how much it meant for me to be there with that song in my heart for 35years of my life..

Today's kidsTV may be brutally dumb and commercial garbage (save for a handful genuine storytelling artworks), but our beloved childhood shows had entire plot lines that could only function as long as girls were feeble, dim crybabies prone to puppy love, and "natives" were cooky, demasculined goofballs who heartily gave away their cultural riches.

There are so many fascinating cultures and stories, I wish there were more shows out there! Yes it might not be historically accurate in the slightest but one must admit the way the writers brought in the alien and UFO theme/ plot into the storyline was very interesting and way ahead of their time. It has with the very confusing happenings starting with Varginha in Brazil, to Peru, the illegal gold miners and sightings of aliens and now Mexico with those Peruvian "alien bodies",.all this does bring one back to remember this amazing kids tv series that mentioned aliens as being a mysterious part of Andean and Meso American history.

I was born in 2009 yet I still watched this as a kid, the theme is so nostalgic. Some of my favourite older shows include: •banana man •count duckula •danger mouse (the original) •the mysterious cities of gold •Sabrina (the witch cartoon) •inspector gadget And many more, yet most of those shows came out when my parents were kids lol!

Every single time this came on in my house me and my three brothers would sing the entire song. It was almost impossible to watch an episode without singing the song first

This was my childhood passion. I’m 37 but still cant get over with this cartoon. It was aired on Saturdays in my country I still remember. I was so nervous when I was watching it. I miss those feelings.😢

I'm physically incapable of watching this without bawling my eyes out. The power of music I guess, holy shit.

The show even gained me some impressive points in an archeology class I took, since thanks to it I knew that Quetzacoatl was a feathered serpent.
