Crystal I know this and I am just blown away not only by your wind but by the Native American tribes and such great history that just filled me with such humility. The only thing that made me sad were the pictures of the Sooners blasting their way to take Tribal lands and how that hurt. But anywho, we love Oklahoma. I was in the play in 7th grade and I played Annie. Can you believe a little Navajo girl playing Annie in Oklahoma. I love the songs and still sing them when we drive. I got to ride in a surrey and it was like peticoat junction with the frilly things we had to wear. Actually Annie wasn't the frilly type but a fickle girl. it was a fun play and that wind reminded me of the play and the songs. Thank you for your comment. Love it. I was glad we were alive the following day as the twister danced East by turning East I should say. I know God answered our prayers. Sheesh. I have so many freaky weather related awful situations we have had in Oklahoma City. Ice storms, hail baseball size , wind, I wouldn’t have rushed there like the Sooners did taking up Indian lands. I laughed and laughed, but he did bead and taught me the peyote stitch. Something like that. He was a Tuscarora Native from North Carolina. When he told me that and the officer he met again who did that favor for him really believed he would get sued. Happy silly thoughts and memories. You are awesome!!! Fran, I just cried and wept through his history. I had never heard of the chief before and I was inspired one day as I said a prayer first. I asked God whom should be of another Native American tribe I could try and portray in teaching not only Dine' but other tribal cultures and traditions for they matter just as much. Then after I prayed, I went to the computer and opened a google page. Out of the blue the first page wasn't the normal google page but a picture of Standing Bear. I was intrigued and couldn't believe my eyes!! I forgot I had just prayed and asked whom I should do the video about during this Native American Heritage month. It happened that fast. I was so fascinated by his story, I read and read, I wept and wept. It was fascinating with sadness, joy, death, betrayal, murder and then the joy that Chief Standing Bear won the court case only to realize the case he won was only for himself and not his people. That lonely realization broke me down again as he moved to the island where his son was laid to rest. The rest of the story made me cry but here and now the Ponca tribe still exist. I never went to the tribe but i shall. I love their songs which I played at the beginning of this video. I honor Chief Standing Bear and I know along with all the Chiefs they are in heaven praying for us all, pleading to God to preserve their posterity and for good to overcome evil. They knew and experience it and some were murdered in such horrific ways. I know they are blessed and are always praying for us all. I pray you will remember your prayers when you do this research. There is so much more. Its an honor. Love you and Thank you for watching. Hugs from Navajo Grandma

He is not as agile as he use to be. I am 11 years older than him & feel younger. Pray for him. So with one eyeball I finished, then drove up north. It was a wonderful time and I made sure you all didn't see my hair. It was gusty galore then they said we had a twister headed our way which turned NE from Ok City. Thank goodness!! How do you folks live there, I felt like I was on eggshells while there with the winds, the twisters, the ice storms, goodness when there is peace I feel something is wrong when I am there. LOL! But glad you enjoy your living there. I was just glad to get home with one eyeball. Hahaha. Thank you again for you watching and so enjoyed being there again. Not the last time. My great great grandfather was born near there after the Trail. When he was 11 his parents "went renegade" and took him back to Tennessee. They were killed under unclear circumstances and their son was adopted by a white family. His half white son married the half white granddaughter of another "renegade" Cherokee, making my grandfather 1/2 and my father 1/4. I don't talk to people about it face to face because I look like an extra from "Braveheart" and therefore have been accused of lying about it. I've visited the Eastern Band (which is not far from my home) many times but have never been to Oklahoma. Always wanted to. Lucky you. 😆

Well Oklahoma is a huge land of Tribal reservations where they were placed through the long walk. Its an amazing place where there are so many tribes to visit and learn about. I have also been to the Eastern Cherokee Nation when Chief Hicks was Chief. I sure miss him, he did a lot of good for the people. I loved it even more as Chief Hicks would not allow the Lumbee to become Fed. Recog'd. I agree with him. Thus I also appreciate your story about your family. What a treasure of a story that you have written down right? I hope you have. It doesn't matter but you know that you are Cherokee and it is true a lot of Cherokees have blue eyes, green eyes with shades of brown, apricot blonde hair, light brown or some dark brown. Their skin is lighter as well but what does that matter because they are Native American. You need to realize you are Native American. How awesome. Thanks for the comment. Navajo Grandma

Bu the wind never seems to cease and man in one mind no clouds and some how clouds if dark come roaring in. Freaky I tell you. I won't tell you my experiences but we still go to Oklahoma to do our Native American research. We love it. I have a son in Chandler and we also have been there, it is beautiful and one time the temperature was 116 and our air conditioner failed. I have always been drawn to Native American people, ever since like I was like four or five years old I always wanted to be Indian. I don't know why? And seeing how she's shown the Pawnee headdress and the women's dress my heart fluttered my heart pounded I got excited and I asked the Lord why am I so drawn to the first Nations! And I'm just like wow! Always it's like I wish I was native American I wish but I don't know why. As a child a child does not know the atrocities that have happened a child does not know the differences in people and racist but that has been a heartfelt wish. Now I am Puerto Rican and it is said that we are Taino Indian from Florida, Spanish and African. That is what makes a Puerto Rican. Mexicans are Spanish and native American. That is what makes a Mexican. Now I wish the Lord can answer why I'm so drawn to them. I had to stop the video to read the Nez Perce monument. My heart broke! What did they do! What did the people of this country do! God bless the first Nations! Lord bless them bless them heal them!

Navajo Grandma , I sent Kevin Costnera note, my favorite line in Dances with wolves,These people weren’t anything like I had been told. I had been to peeped before and after movie I wanted to be respectful of the ways things were done.they had a strong sense of family loved to have fun. Powwows were like going to church.stories were shared about the earth honor and reverence. After movie I really felt that line in my heart.
@NavajoGrandma
Жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I know Kevin Costner was really proud of this movie and it was quite a history told. The language was incredible to hear. You think Dine' Bizaad is hard, whoa, I think this Lakota language is worse. I do remember this line in the movie as well and it was so true. We don't see what others see, what they think, or what someone told them, at school, work, out during the camp fires about these blood thirsty wild indians on and on. Even my white friends use to say things like this to me. They would say, "do you really speak english, wow, I thought you indians were like dumb and couldn't learn and you excell in everything. Wow I can't believe this." Imagine someone saying this to you in the mid 1960's. I didn't get offended as I had not learned what being offended meant yet. I was just wandering why people thought the things they did. I would always think, "don't they understand who we are." Apparently, even now, most do not know. I am happy to have these movies Kevin Costner made and others that I have taken part in movies as an extra that actually taught me about other tribes that I didn't know myself. So much to learn. I so enjoyed your comment. Hugs from Navajo Grandma. (I just know when I look into Kevin Costner's eyes I melt and he knows this. So embarrassing but every woman says the same thing. I say it with respect and blush LOL!) He is divorced and if I was beautiful and a gorgeous Native Woman, younger which I was a long time ago, I would ask him out to dinner. I saw him at the Spanish Fork Rodeo grounds in Utah as that was for his YellowStone version, he sat across from me and our eyes met so many times like he remembered me from times before which is a lie I believe. But I just remember my blood pressure rise again. I never went to say hi to him I just froze and he knew I was watching him. Oh goodness sakes, he looked back to me so many times. I best stop this goofy stuff. I am a grandma heavens sakes!! LOL
