This was before wokeness took over. They made the nazis pretty convincing in their menace, oratory skills, and charm. It really made you understand why that specific Hirogen was convinced to keep going. Nu-Trek would never do this. God fearing? They ignored pretty much every precept of Christianity. They put the state over God. Those who knew about it deliberately and systematically killed the Jews. They alienated many when the Bible said to forgive enemies and to NOT hate others of a different religion. Not to mention that Hitler Youth forcefully replaced many Christian groups. Klingons fighting Nazi Hirogen... this episode had it all and was very entertaining. But to be honest there were some gaping plot holes. The "holodeck stuck in operation" trope had gotten rather overused by this point. In an episode about a 100 000+ year old culture of "nomadic space hunters" taking over their ship and using their "Holodeck" for a few rounds of space-Fortnite, where the protagonists win because a holographic life form disrupted a "neural interface" by programing a cyborg crewman's "Borg" implants to emit a jamming signal) they didn't get the 20th century earth uniforms right? Which is why I want to throw things when it airs on BBC America, where they cut it down to "...but the kommandant is a fool _(cut)_ one does not cooperate...eliminates them _(cut)_ We must countermand...." @Chansulus Not really, the Hirogen were a race of nomadic hunters who's goal was to find more and tougher prey to hunt. Unlike the Nazi's they had no interest in conquest and expanding an empire. The simulation here was created by the leader of the Hirogen in order to study the human prey and their reactions and tactics while giving his hunters practice. He was intrigued with the violent past of the human race.

The nazis were christians as much as the romans were pagans, it was cultural but as soon as the thousand year reich began you can say goodbye to christianity and german churches. as a matter of fact there were a lot of churches that helped german and polish jews disguise themselves as christian. The priest vouched for them and everything of course their cover was blown if they were asked to undress and therefore expose their circumcisions.

He is supposed to be the aide of the commandant so he would be speaking with the commandant's authority. There are times when position has more pull than rank. I know a guy who when he was a chaplain (a 1st Lieutenant at the time) who was filling in for the post chaplain (a Lieutenant Colonel) while he was on leave. A Major came into his office and showed his ass because he couldn't get use of the chapel because it was already booked. The next day that Major was in the post commander's office (a Brigadier General) getting has ass chewed and being informed that his orders were rescinded because he decided to pick a fight with the post chaplain.
