The same thing happened to me in my Skeeter in a tournament. However, in the skeeter, some of the water from the livewell was able to slosh into the back of the boat. On my last stop, I turned the livewell on to constantly fill because the water was so warm and the fish were dying. I went to put the boat on plane, and it barely got on plane like in your video. Once we got back to the landing, my partner was like "there's water hitting my leg." This was coming from the drain near the seats. The overrun from the livewell filled the boat all the way to the top of the batteries, and I didn't have a bilge pump at the time. My old bilge pump went out and my service place was taking forever to replace it. I learned my lesson to never fish without a working bilge. Now I have a triton with two automatic bilge pumps to prevent that from happening again. I also press the test on one of the pumps every time before I leave to make sure it is working.

I forgot my plug once. My kid noticed water coming in and I immediately turned the motor off, reached down and put the plug in. Then used the bilge pump to pump the water out. No harm came from it. Good to keep a spare on-board. Now I check it before leaving the docks as a safety net.

Been there,,, twice. Once about 30 years ago and the 2nd time was just last fall. "Why is there water coming up from the cup holders?".... oh ya DOH!!!. Just zoom up and and down the river to drain it then beach it and get wet.

I've made some mistakes and allowed dumb things to happen with my boat. Not the plug though, fortunately. But I think we've all been there at one time or another. Glad you came out of it okay.

You should of had that chain right away. Instead of a chain I use a turnbuckle. It will never come away. At least you learned something.

Man, stuff like that happens. Glad it all worked out. I was trying to launch once and the boat wouldn't come off the trailer. I'm like man I know I'm deep enough... Man I'm gunning that motor and it won't come off. I mean water is coming over the back of the boat!! I pull it out, walk around... Yep, didn't take the straps off!! I felt like an idiot!! So glad nobody else was at the ramp!!

ALWAYS HAVE LIFE JACKETS ON YOUR BOAT, MY FRIENDS! I sunk a boat fishing salt water on the California coast. My bait tank intake hose landed on my bilge pump float and didn’t realize I had a leak on my transom. Didn’t realize until my wife asked why there was ankle deep water at the stern…no bueno. Had to abandon ship before she capsized; got a mayday call out to coast guard and got our coordinates to them; a local fisherman heard the call and came rushing out from 5 miles out. We had life jackets, no one was hurt. ALWAYS HAVE LIFE JACKETS ON YOUR BOAT! If you think this can’t happen to you, you’ll be dead wrong one day.

Custom ballast mod! someone once told me that if you lose your plug (or forgot) that running the boat at speed causes a vacuum to pull the water out of the hole, I have never tried it...I wonder if anyone else has and can report.

Best thing I ever done was to put a remote drain plug in my Nitro Z20 !!! It’s cheap and very easy to install !!

I have two questions. Why is a brand new Nitro not wired with automatic bilge pumps? These should be wired directly to the battery with float switches that will come on no matter what. Second, does the Nitro not have 1 way flapper valves next to the bilge plug? On my Triton, if I'm taking on water faster than my pump can keep up, I can use the main engine to move me forward which will force water out through those valves. Almost any forward movement will start that process. They're one way, so water only flows out.

@@MarkBlackstock Definitely check those pumps. If there's no float switch it's not hard to add one. Also a good idea to check the flow rates. They're cartridge pumps and pop right out. My 2014 Triton came with 600 GPH which I replaced with 750's. I fish big water and get swamped a lot, they kick on and off as needed.

sorry to hear of your misfortune :( make a sign that says "plug" and hang it on the steering wheel. we are all excited about fishing and tend to forget a few details from time to time. i am surprised that you didnt notice water in the floor drain? i have 2 bilge pumps on mine, one is on an automatic switch. if it comes on, there is a problem! they are both 1000gph units.
