IMO Yes vocals were quite different. Again IMHO, their most acclaimed music was much more based on massive bass foundations, with layers of vocals, orchestrations and acrobatic guitar, and to a lesser degree layers of keyboards and top tier drums. Actually Yes had a forgotten 1st phase of simpler symphonic pop based on folk and beat; then they started switching to the classical inspired technical rock suite that made they -boring- ...ehm, famous in the US and that still prevent most rock/pop audience to dig deeper on prog; after the prog craze ended (and most 70s rock became "fat", self-satisfied and excessive) they went back to an underrated more rock and more accessible period, with hints of Berlin school and proto new age. This song could remind very early Yes and all that (often orchestral) period of bands like Galliard, Skip Bifferty, Nirvana, etc. Not my cup of tea but forgotten and still historically meaningful.
@norai.5826

I've instantly thought to Steven Wilson. This negative harmony version actually sounds alternative with 60s prog and psych influences (not distant from Radioactive Toy by Porcupine Tree). I've read an interview (circa 2016?) where he declared that he started as a darkwave listener and that he still loved his proto-alternative roots even after becoming a neo-neo-prog / psych inspired heavy art rock / atmospheric rock artist (95% of what -using an American perspective- nowadays is called prog, would never ever be considered progressive rock before the 90s).

Actually symmetry in general does this. Any musical structure will always have the exact same symmetrical image about any axis, albeit in different keys. What's now called "Negative Harmony" is symmetry around a very specific axis so that the image ends up being in the parallel minor, aka the diatonic key a minor third up from the original diatonic key. Except, as it turns out, the diatonic scale happens to already be symmetrical around one single axis, which happens to pass through the second degree of the ionian mode (and coincidentally the #5/b6 because it's a tritone away), so for example through D (and G#/Ab) in C major / A minor. So any axis can be named in reference to a diatonic key. If you have a musical structure that is diatonic to C for example, and you find its image about the axis of C, the resulting image will be diatonic to... well C. It'll be the same image as with Negative Harmony, but diatonic to the original key. Negative Harmony actually is the image of your original structure about the axis of the key that is a half-flat 2nd above the original key. So if your original key is C, for example, Negative Harmony flips the notes about the axis of D half-flat (and coincidentally G half-sharp), which passes through E half-flat (and coincidentally A half-sharp), so that the result will be diatonic to the key of Eb, which is the parallel minor of C. Edit: typo ("parralel")

one of the reasons i'm not a fan of the original Here Comes The Sun is because of how incessantly joyful it is... i rarely feel that way in my real life, and when i do it's NEVER because a song told me that things are good and happy. demand avoidance comes into play here. that and the sheer amount of times i've heard the song against my will, even decades after its initial release, just give it a very fake, corporate feel. perhaps that's just my fear and nihilism getting in the way of enjoyment, idk. this version is so much more interesting to me. it's not necessarily joyful, it's not necessarily melancholic, it's not necessarily mysterious or brooding. it CAN be all of those things, but it's never ONLY one of those things. it's a mixture of sounds and emotions that interact in a unique way, a way that may never have been thought of if Steve never started making these negative harmony covers. that mixture of emotions better reflects the reality of life than the beat-you-over-the-head-with-happiness of the OG. ofc we all need a bit of escapism, and i fully understand why people are drawn to this song and others like it. to me though, this version is simply more intriguing because it's not any one thing, and it's not trying to be; it's just whatever sound happens to come out of flipping the harmonies of the original

I remember years ago having an argument with my brother that "right handedness" is just an artifact of modern design. I proved that if I write with my left hand but use a mirror image of normal writing, when looked at in the mirror it is just as good as my regular writing. Then at his suggeston I try to play fur elise on the piano as a mirror image. I found this s bit tricky at first, but after getting used to the sound, it became quite easy, as I just played the right hand part (but as a mirror image) on my left hand, and played the left hand part with my right hand (but as a mirror image). We were both amazed at the results. I then tried various other pieces (dream of olwen, Misty, Rhapsody in Blue), always with amazing results. It became a bit of a party trick for me then. I'd play the mirror image of a piano piece and have people try to guess what it is.

Кажется я поняла, как писать хиты. Берёшь легендарную песню, переводишь в негативную гармонию, меняешь текст - и вот тебе конфетка не хуже оригинала :)

New song, I love this one. The quality of the sound, the way the notes, chords etc match greatly and they arent odd sounding, good stuff.
