So 1 CPS weirdo came over knocking on her 🚪 like they were law enforcement so she got scared and hid. And because resources for battered woman are almost non-existent unless you get very lucky, she was seen as failing to protect by CPS. Some of you guys have a really idealized view of the system. There are children who are horrifically physically and mentally abused every day and they're returned to their parents because there's not enough money and resources to do anything else. It's a field where cases are ruthlessly culled of anything other than the absolute worst of the worst, and a child wandering around a wealthy neighborhood with no signs of physical abuse, a nice home, plenty of food, and a mom that doesn't look like a junkie (a big deal in Fort Myers, in particular) doesn't fit the bill. Some areas have more resources, be that money, professionals, or both, than others and I'm sure in those areas, this would have been investigated more thoroughly. In many urban areas, however, it wouldn't be. Ideally, everyone who does shit like that would face consequences, but that's not the reality of the system. It's not a Lee County thing as much as it is a USA thing. The mom is articulate, doesn't have a history of this kind of thing, maintains a nice home for her child, and was apologetic. That's like the ideal situation for DCF to close out the case and move on to the next.

@@aly6957 What does your comment have to do with the original comment. There is a strong correlation between lax application of law and repeat criminal activity. In this case the original poster is correct this only serves as vindication. As someone who works within the system you are talking about and when people like this get away with these things it usually leads to an escalation. Something the system neglects to take responsibility for. The idea that the state should wait until the situation gets bad enough that the kid suffers permanent harm is insane. They didn't just drop a DCF case on a mother that made a mistake. She knew what she was doing and decided her happiness was more important than her child's safety. To make it worse, she makes more than enough money to hire a babysitter to keep her kid safe as well. Do better than justifying the actions of the system.

@@aly6957 Hey friend, I’m an educator in elementary school. You don’t need to preach about how I don’t understand the system. I have to play WITHIN the system to make sure these kids survive. They need coats in the winter, but don’t have them so I buy them, lunch in their belly but no lunch card so I share mine (and get extra snacks from other teachers for them to take home). I see it everyday. I see kids who come to class in urine soaked pants bc their parents are too strung out to wash them in the sink & they don’t have money for a laundry mat. Knowing all the flaws in the system doesn’t mean we can’t hold that same system to the standard it should be held. There are no resources and the only thing that will make people see that is by speaking out against negligence. So please back off until you can come back and tell me what you’re doing for these kids. A lot of us care and are just trying to keep them afloat. There’s money in the budgets to pay for child welfare but it’s not a money maker so they DONT.

The mother finally shows up, more worried that family services might get involved because this is the 3 rd time her son has gotten out. It took that mother at least 5 minutes to figure out her child was missing. Terrifying, to say the least when I had to flag down a truck that would’ve most definitely ran that poor baby over! The role of CPS is to ensure the child’s safety until the parent can either get their stuff together or find a place for the child to live permanently if that’s not possible. It’s a broken system with a lot of flaws, but most of the people doing the work are doing the best they can. Edit: Also, wanted to add it’s not the CPS social workers who “take kids away”. @@emclaire18I feel like the blame should be placed on the mother. She's not a minor, she's grown enough to live her life and figure out right from wrong. You can only place so much blame on her mother before it looks like you'd absolve the daughter of all responsibility. No matter what, legally speaking this is all on the boy's mother. I get what you're saying, I do.

@@emclaire18 You don't know how the grandmother raised her daughter. Believe it not, but you can raise a child 100% perfectly in every aspect and they can still turn out bad. Some people are bad people simply because they choose to be, not because they were raised wrong. Either way, we don't know how the mother was raised, nor does it matter. This chick is full grown with a child; she should definitely know better or be making strides to improve.

I had my second son 2 days after I turned 20. I could never fathom doing anything like this! I couldn't ever imagine WANTING to do something like this!! After I had my kids my life revolved around them because that's what I wanted. I didn't plan on having children, I definitely didn't want to have kids as young as I did. But, once I had them I wanted nothing more than to be with them. My first time leaving them with my in-laws my ex and I drove to Vegas for my birthday. For the entirety of our almost 5 hour drive I could hear them in the backseat. Had I been driving I would've driven back to get them lol. Now they're young adults and I'm so proud to be their momma. They have great girlfriends, they're working hard towards their goals and they love and respect their family and friends. Sorry this was so long to read, I just love kids and I don't know why any adult would be this careless with their own child, or any child. It's infuriating!

Props to the cop for not letting the kid see his mom put in cuffs. That's the type of stuff that could cause a kid to grow up distrusting cops as they really have no way to put this in context and just sees the policeman taking his mommy away.

@@LitEmbers Same here. Mine was hauled in enough she actually developed opinions on which city squad was the smoothest ride in back. I think the difference was, I was older, like 10-12 when my 'mother' (Hate calling her that, no one that abusive, spiteful and hateful should ever get that title) stopped being subtle about her shoplifting, assault, harassment, and other crimes and started getting cuff-n-stuffed regularly. So, old enough to know she was wrong and she was merely receiving consequences of her actions. Old enough to know her spin on things was BS. Four years old though, yeah, I don't think a four year old would really understand it like an older kid would.
