I like what he says about boredom, that he has never really felt bored and there is always something to do like reading a book at an appointment with some time to kill. I think Neil sets the standard for living outside of the Limelight, to have other interests like motorcycles etc. Seems to me that many of our musical heros died young in part because they never figured out a way to "switch off" and give it a rest. That's what Rush are all about these days and probably will be until all the planets are aligned again.

Second: PE as in physical education as in the Stamina it takes to play drums and in particular at a EXCEEDINGLY HIGH LEVEL!!! So we can deduce through his last name that we have an ARTIST in every sense of the word and Physical Education in terms of stamina and physicality to play at level that boggles the mind and soothes the Heart! Actually, the best way to do that would be by using bits and quotes of lyrics within your conversation. That would a subtle way of making it known that you know who he is... but without actually saying it. Plus by throwing those lines into the conversation and using words like "conformity" and...... there are other words that Neil uses often, but i can't think of them... But that would be the best way sort of ease in to possibly having a RUSH orientated conversation

All the big name artists from this area that have passed lately… God is putting together one heck of a rock ‘n’ roll band up there! Rest in peace Mr. Peart

8/18/10: I was on my GSX-R 1000 in Evergreen, CO and stopped to get gas. A BMW GS and a Triumph Tiger with CA tags pull up to the gas pump adjacent. The dude on the GS gets off his bike and looks over at my bike and nods at me and I nod back as riders will do. He’s really tall. His visor is tinted so I can’t see his face. But something was familiar about all this. Then I realize that Rush is playing that night at Red Rocks not far from here. My stomach drops. (I’m a pro-touring drummer myself and a Rush fan). That is, without question, Neil Fucking Peart. What do I do? Say hi? Nope. I knew better. So I just got on my bike and yelled “ride safe” to them as I took off and they waved. I couldn’t go to the show because I was gigging too that night. I know the date because I kept the gas receipt and wrote “Saw Neil Peart” on it. Lol. But I still wish I would have said something. And that was the closest I ever got to meeting Neil Peart. RIP

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary

Since Neil was into motorcycles, I'm surprised Rush never wrote a cool rock Biker anthem like fellow Canadians Steppenwolf did with Born to be Wild....

Jack Black said" your not suppose to let the drummer write the lyrics for the band!.!.!." LOL Mr.Peart, you will be missed. I've thanked GOD for allowing me to live in a time with you to witness your extraordinary journey and talent. I will also continue to write the lyrics for my band's music to honor you and to drive Jack Black nuts!!!!!! R.I.P. Mr.Peart.
