Great inspiration this. Will do my first brew in the Easter break, got a Grainfather S40 for half price and just went for it. I really like your style to many other YT-brewers as it seems more relaxed. Lots of tech talk among some others and it just confuses me. I will just ferment in room temp for the time being, do you do the same or do you use fancy temp regulation...?

Hi Espen, thank you for the great comment - really appreciated. You have certainly gone for the Rolls Royce of brew kettles 👍To answer your question directly, we have never used temperature controlled fermentation - BUT you must always stay within the given yeasts temperature range. A really great yeast for room temp, 18°C to 20°C (we always keep many packets on hand) is SAF ALE 04 - also a great beginers yeast and works well for all bitters, stouts, porters, milds etc. Not sure where you live in this beautiful world of ours but if you have hot summers try the Kviek yeast (up to 40°C) When you start out, if your water is nice don't worry about water chemistry. Anyway, enough rambling - have a great time with your first brew, invite a friend and get a few beers in. Good luck! 🍻

The colour of that at bottling looks amazing (6:41). It doesn't quite look the same when you crack em open to rate (or was that just the lighting?). I'm very new to homebrew, but I want to try this one.

I'm late to this one, great job on the brew, it looked delicious! Just out of interest, why did you add the protafloc if you were hoping for / expecting a cloudy beer? I bought them for my first year of home brewing but they past their use by date and I've never bothered replacing them. It might be my imagination but I reckon my beers taste just as good if not better without them.

Hi guys, what kinda sugars do you use? Just regular white table sugar, “carbonation drops” or something else?

Hi, we use brewing sugar if we have it, failing that regular table sugar. 🍻👍

Great video as usual guys. I know hazy beers are all the rage, but they just don't float my boat, a beer needs to be clear in my view. Do you know if it's possible to get all the flavour of a hazy beer but still keep it clear? Cheers
@TheGingerBrewers
Жыл бұрын
I see an experiment coming on! I did have the same opinion as you about clarity but over the years my thoughts have changed. I guess the hazy comes from the oats and the taste profile mainly from the hop schedule? So in theory you could very easily create a similar flavour in a clear beer... Thanks for the great question 🍻🍻

How does the Klarnstien fare with holding temps? My S40 cuts off at 68 then drops to 65 before slowly coming back up. Doesn't get to the boil either. This was an alternative I've looked at.
@TheGingerBrewers
Жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, on the plus side the Klarstein does come up to the boil well and holds a rolling boil. On the down side, it's like all these kettles without a pump the temperature can vary from the top of the kettle to the bottom and it does wander a bit if you don't recirculate. Like all these entry level kettles they aren't a set it and forget it solution. I would be worried about the kettle not getting to the boil though - maybe send the supplier an email on that. Cheers 🍻

@@TheGingerBrewers ibr just returned it and had a refund so was looking at replacements for it. Might have to spend a bit more and go for something else. Ideally still 35 or so ltr. Will do some more googling/youtubing. Cheers!

@@AaronCrowephotography If it helps we also brew in the Brewster Beacon 70 - depending who's house. This kettle has a pump and is fab - check it out, I think they do a smaller one also.

Hey Figbird that is a great idea but sounds like a challenge. In a couple of brews time we have a gose brew lined up. We have the yeast, grain and hops but we need the bacteria. We are going to get lactobacillus but I don't know how long you can keep it before you use it. Watch this space. Have you brewed one?
@figbird9740

@@TheGingerBrewers I attempted a salt and pepper gose but it didn't go too well unfortunately! I think some bacteria caused an issue. I used a mangrove jack's pre-made raspberry Berliner previously which was great, but would love to do a sour/gose all grain brew that works in the future! Will keep watching and will look out for a future video :)
