Maxime has been on fire these last couple of tournaments. He did well in the SCC too. To put Magnus away in one match is very impressive. To beat Magnus in back to back matches is pretty much so unheard of. I don’t think people clearly understand how difficult that is or if that’s even happened to Magnus before? Maxime was playing with determination. And he was up on the clock most games. An impressive achievement. And Magnus didn’t pull the old “I’m sick” schtick. He said he was feeling good going into the match. Making Maxime’s wins all the more impressive. It’s like Maxime has come out of a coma all of a sudden 😂. Good Job Frenchy.

Extremely polite of Maxime to say after the matches that he didn't feel Magnus was playing on his usual level, because I didn't feel that way at all. The commentary team expressed similar sentiments, I always find it very shitty to take away from a player's victory like that. As if Magnus playing "on his level" was better than everyone else by default, so anytime he loses he automatically wasn't playing on his level. Magnus is the most consistent, he talks about raising the floor of one's play being as important as raising the roof, it doesn't mean another player cannot dominate him fair and square on a really good day. I honestly think Magnus' form was as good as on any other day, it's just that Maxime's was way better than usual.

It's because MVL is not a rival of Magnus. Haven't heard of MVL in a grand final since god knows when until today and he proceeds to beat the #1 player back to back no less. So it's easy to assume that magnus was having a bad day
@rohan1864
Жыл бұрын
@@ermesslavoi1649 I always feel like that's a very flawed way to look at it. If your opponent is playing well against you, they lead you to more difficult positions, which result in you making more mistakes and having a lower accuracy. If they dominate you throughout the game with their high precision and yours is lower, it will be lead to be lower than it would be if you played equally well against someone who didn't dominate you like that and didn't take advantage of every chance you gave them. So in my opinion the accuracy of a player is very far from being an independent measure. Playing against better, more ruthless opponents WILL decrease your accuracy, compared to if you were playing weaker ones. Besides, chess is a mind game, and that only adds to what I'm saying. Maxime dominated fair and square.
@rohan1864
Жыл бұрын
@@ermesslavoi1649 besides even within your argument, it seems Magnus always gets the special treatment. Part of being a good player is that you make others play badly against you, and that's what Magnus is famous for - all the players tend to play worse against him than they do against others. Somehow, when the roles are put that way, no one questions his victories saying that "they weren't really playing on their level so it was easier for him", the narrative then is that he is so good that he makes them play bad. You can't judge the same thing two opposite ways just so it is always to Magnus' advantage.

its sort of double elimination bracket style. in the "final" MVL and MC met by winning their sides of brackets (the norm) but the player who loses that doesnt get eliminated immediately rather drops to the lower bracket (of players who lost earlier). MVL won the lower bracket whilst MC waited at the grand final. NOW, since MC has already beaten him once through final it would be unfair if MVL won the grand final with a stroke of luck yes? so the player whos coming up from lower bracket has to win once to "reset" the tie. you get it ?
