When PYREX came out with this item in the 1970's it was advertised as a Counter Saver and not a cutting board. They have their purposes and they work very well. However, it is not a cutting board.
@robertdudash1123
8 ай бұрын
Pyrex never existed in the 1970's but PRYEX did.. In the 1970's many of the counter tops were still plastic laminate like Formica (from the 1950's) or a type of hard rubber surface (from the 1940's) which eventually wear down buy normal use. The counter saver would be placed in a location of most wear instead of replacing the main countertop. I think as time passed customers were also using them as cutting boards and they are selling them as cutting boards today.

Thanks for the excellent advice. I wonder if glass cutting boards make any sense with "dull edge" cutting tools (dough knives, spatulas, etc.) for any baking, fondant, or pasta-forming uses -- I could see it being useful when using cutting or size guides (visible but protected from mess and cuts below the glass).
@hawkmoths

@@hawkmoths marble has the advantage of being significantly softer than glass, and softer than knife steel, too. So, although it would still require more frequent sharpening than using a plastic or wooden cutting board, I doubt it would dull knives as quickly as glass.
