Well hopefully if they reduce the office space this will make more jobs remote. The govt wastes way too much money on renting properties.

Currently work for Defense Health Agency as a GS7, been looking for a change of pace. I applied for the IRS, Veterans Health Administration, and even Army IMCOM at my local base. All are GS9s with promotion potential to 11-12. Hoping to hear something from any of them. Wish me luck!

I see a 3.0% max. The govt is more concerned about funding proxy wars than taking care of its own work force. Heck, we gave Ukraine money to THEY can pay their government workers.

Hi - I once saw an opening that said “many vacancies” What exactly does that mean? 5, 10 or 20 openings?

Honestly, I think the military should get higher annual raises. Thier on the job risk is exponentially higher.

I'm in the process of applying for my next GS promotion between the base I work at currently, as well as other bases in other cities of the same State I reside in currently, and even other states. I can get as far as referred for a position, but half the time that's as far as it goes and I don't get call backs for interviews, or job offers etc. I know my Resume is good and lines up with the jobs I apply for, but I end up not getting selected for whatever the position is after being referred to the hiring manager. I'll admit, it is frustrating applying for federal jobs. Before I got a job offer for the position I work currently, GS-5 slot, before I was a WG-6, I had submitted about 150 applications before finally getting called for the position I work at now.

Thank you for sharing. I am feeling a bit discouraged about the application process. I get referrals and interviews but no offer.

@@genesisramos9693 It can be frustrating. when I first left the GS system in 2016 or 2017, It took me about a year and half to get back in. It probably helps if you are someone with veterans status, which I do not have. I do have other areas I can qualify for to apply for jobs that is not just ones for open to the public.

It's funny when I think about the future of the GS pay scale, I'm currently a GS-09 and we're capped at $42/hr, however in 25 years when I retire adjusted to inflation I'll be retiring at about $60/hr making about 120k/yr. That's crazy....Are government agencies really going to be able to afford this?? Doesn't seem sustainable..But then again I look at the GS pay scale in 2010 and GS-09 was capped at around $32/hr. I guess numbers just keep getting bigger..

Of course they can. When inflation increases, so does the percentage of tax revenue. Also, 120k/year is not a lot of money, at all. In 25 years that will be the bottom of the barrell.

@@jakeb934 I know, but I'm not planning on retiring in the U.S THANK GOD! I'm planning my retirement in Mexico where I have my second home. There's no way I can live a comfortable life in the U.S during my retirement years. Plan accordingly guys!!

@@SaL-ep7zb im sorry to hear that. You will be able to live a comfortable life if you follow the 3 tiers of retirement from the federal government though: FERS, TSP, and Social Security

@@jakeb934 I'm projected to have 2M on my TSP by the time I retire in which will remain invested in the S&P 500. Withrawing 6% and re investing the remaining amount to keep compounding interest is the way to do it.

Does a “VA disability” letter work the same as a “Schedule A” letter?
@armandcuret1

No. But if you have a VA disability letter then you probably can get a Schedule A letter but they are two different documents and open up different hiring paths.
