The new pavement layout on #LeithWalk in #Edinburgh is not safe or accessible for blind & visually impaired pedestrians. Cyclists & pedestrians should not be expected to share the same space. Cycle lanes should not be put behind pedestrian crossings, it is a dangerous design.
Sandy Taylor, who is blind is holding his white cane and standing in front of the pedestrian crossing next to the cycle lane. Bikes and e-bikes are seen riding on and off the cycle lane which is not in both directions, even though it is a one one cycle lane. They are weaving in and out of pedestrians on this area. Pedestrians are seen moving back away from crossing the area when cyclists are coming including a man with a buggy. There are still some road works being carried out of the scheme when this was being filmed in late 2022.
