I also have the ATLP 120. I took out the preamp, added weight to the counterweight, & better cartridge. Playing it (& all my other sources) thru a Marantz 2220B & Advent legacy. Good speakers, but they need a lot more than 20wpc to make them really "shine" so I need some more efficient speakers eventually. But it works, & does sound pretty good.

jesusgavemeaids can you alter the vta on that. Really cheap best feet you can get buy some squash balls work on speakers and valve amps as well, and a big medium syringe or small funnel and some tungsten powder 50% more dense than lead cup a T shape in the squash ball fill it with the tungsten powder Super Glue it back together some Blu-Tack underneath to stop them moving you can't get a better foot then this. Make sure you put them on your speakers as well always use 5 feet on a speaker one in the middle and away from the front baffle couple of inches
@jesusgavemeaids

@@johnsweda2999 yes you can adjust the vta on this turntable. I have the older 120 right before they released the new "X" series though. So I'm not 100% sure about on the new ones.

I've been collecting records for a year and a half waiting for the day I found and could actually afford a quality player. I tasked my brother with finding me one for Christmas...aaand he produced a Crossley. I don't know much about turntable specs, but I know enough about their reputation that I didn't dare let it touch my records. I loved the gorgeous wooden suitcase design, but it wasn't worth it if it could potentially damage my records, so I haven't used it. I've been looking for a good replacement for it that's just as lovely aesthetically pleasing but is of quality. Just ordered mine!!! I'm not thrilled about the price, but I'll rest assured that I've bought a turntable of quality to learn more about my hobby without risking damaging my records.

My best vinyl rig in my home is a Technics SL-QL1 linear tracking turntable connected to a Rolls preamp, which is presently being fed to a compact, early 90's Aiwa stereo system. My main amp I was using was a Pioneer that I bought brand new last year, but it developed a faulty relay in the power supply. The Aiwa seems to be ok for the time being. Age: 56 years. This set-up sounds BEAUTIFULLY. I have been tempted to change my turntable but every time I play a record, well, I think it is a waste of money. Also several experts have told me DON'T CHANGE ANY OF YOUR COMPONENTS. I'm a fairly new turntable owner. I bought mine on Black Friday last year, and went for the fully automatic Audio-Technica LP3 with built-in preamp. However, even though whatfifi. com gave it 5 out of 5 stars, I upgraded it with the Project Phono Box E external preamp, and the next step is to change the cartridge to the Ortofon 2M Red or the Audio Technica 95E from this video. I have the turntable connected to my Samsung Premium HWS650 soundbar in a 5.1 surround sound setup. Not ideal, but for the use I have it's quite enough. 😊

I have two questions: first, can I turn off the pre-amp and use my old integrated amplifier in the Phono input (I see a switch on the back of the turntable)? Can I switch to the Ortofon 2m Red stylus, or to do that do I have to change all the cartridge, unscrew it, unplug the little cables, re-screw and replug and then realign a new one? For the moment I'm oriented toward a Debut Carbon, which comes out with a Ortofon 2m and no pre-amp.

Seems pretty decent for the money and something else to consider when looking at Fluance, Music Hall and Pro-Ject turntables in the same price point. Surprising that they didn't include some type of auto shut-off feature, but I wouldn't call that a deal breaker. It is also nice that you can actually upgrade this turntable with a better cartridge and a better slip mat. Also, I haven't seen a turntable in this price range with an adjustable vertical tracking angle (that's what the hex wrench is for, by the way) which would allow you to maximize cartridge performance should you choose to upgrade. Appears that DROP are based in San Francisco, so shout out from here and kudos on the great review.

My turntable is a Technics model SL-BD20D It is fitted with a Grado Prestige Green Cartridge. It plays through a Pyle Electrics preamp to the audio input on my computer. With this method, of course the sound is from my PC surround speaker system. This system also improves the quality of my vinyl rips using audacity immeasurably. A few years back I decided to keep it real simple and save a few dollars on the 100 watts electricity used by my aging and fading Onkyo amp. The Onkyo had an amazing preamp section, but the Pyle does work out very well as a replacement. Play the record, rip the music with audacity, put it all into iTunes and save the music as AAC files - and you cant tell the difference between the analog rips from a well remastered CD.

I have the Audio Technica LP120x usb and for now some simple speakers. I’m waiting for my new speaker set but they will be made by a friend of mine.

When working/reading my turntable is the white AT-LP3 with a Vessel Cartridge and line contact stylus with an acrylic mat, aluminum/rubber legs and silver Denon head shell to match the arm (yes it is identical to the Audio Technica), with a isolation platform. Why this turntable? It's the best automatic available, and when I'm working I don't like running to stop the record at the end. I use the Vincent PHO8 phono preamp. Some write negative things about the LP3 because they don't know what the hell they are talking about.
