I've carried a bug out bag for 30yrs..and was unaware of it!..started when I was 16 logging in the summer..I was stuck in the middle of nowhere the majority of the time..if you didn't have what you needed you where S.O.L..I no longer log..but have kept the self reliance mindset and it has served me quite well...a lot of this gear is inexpensive and practical.. you're not going to rebuild a civilization with 17lbs.of titanium, and Cuban fiber on your back..so keep it simple...Btw..2 victor rat traps weigh next to nothing...loaded with peanut butter, they are devastating on squirrels..

if you have children and have to carry gear for more than just yourself look into the marine corps. improved load bearing equipment or ilbe bags...both gen 1 and 2 are great and battle tested plus they are sold surplus for dirt cheap.the assault pack can be clipped onto the large bag for more storage, it has two sets of tiedowns+pockets on the side made for a mortar tube but they work great to slide a machete and rifle in. if you are looking for something different and more expensive try the filbe (current gen)

Hots Coffman even a $40 Alice pack with the frame will do you good if you can’t afford the newer packs. Durable and proven. AND a plus, you can use the ALICE frame to carry heavy objects such as ammo.

The solar panel may not be the best idea for that intended purpose. You're talking about 72 hours and recognizing that the battery will charge a phone from dead 5-6 times. The panel will take ages to charge that battery up and in commercials people like to show a panel being warn, but to be effective it needs to be at a 90 degree angle to the sun, and constantly moved to track the sun's movement in the sky. A single 26.8mah battery is fine. Solar panels like that would only be useful if you were without power for a week or so, AND stationary. Not the intended purpose of the bag.

Great vid, thank you! Your mics sound great. My only gripe is the voices are panned a bit hard for me. We would be fine to hear a little bit more in the other ear on each voice. That said, I always like to see follow up vids to anything. You do great at keeping coherent content. Thanks!

So what do you guys think about some type of small pouch for a kid that walks to and from school to stuff into the bottom of their book bag to get back to you?
@UltimateSurvivalTips

Sure! Great idea. Just make sure that you practice with them. And make sure you have a plan to go get them. If something happens, they should stay where they are and wait for you or someone else that they know is supposed to come get them.

Great to see the upgrades and some more advice. Sad to see how many drongos feel that their negative comments are important enough to share in the comments. I appreciate what you’ve shared and I’m learning a lot from your videos. I also appreciate that you’re giving advice. Sure, people might disagree with or ignore it, but that’s fine, your presentation style isn’t dictatorial. So, thank you, and I look forward to more videos :)

Most people already own some or most of the stuff needed to build the kit and that brings the cost way down. Who doesn't have an old backpack laying around - as an example. Also a pair of leather gloves, a descent knife, a fleece throw or 4, etc...

The reason I would suggest against the takedown bow for the average person is the same reason why y'all suggest against the conibear traps. There's a lot of skill and knowledge that has to be put in, without sights on a bow you have to have a lot of string time in to be proficient. In a survival situation having the tool is one thing, proficiency with the tool is what makes it useful.

I would upgrade one thing in particular. Some kind of book, bible, mini embroidery kit, crossword book and pen... something for your mind. Mental health if something happens is up there with heat, food, and shelter in terms of important. Put something in for your mind. Something to distract you and relax you. Something that doesn’t run out fast (if it’s a book pick one you’ll read more than once) and doesn’t require power.

I use my new equipment at home first. If it doesn’t fit, or work properly, I want to know before I need it. Bought a new sleeping bag, but couldn’t get it zipped up all the way. That’s for the Wife. Ended up with a double sleeping bag that is perfect , except that black zipper handles are hard to work in the dark. I attached “D” ring carabringers with wire key holders attached, to the zippers, & they work much better, & help hang the bag up to dry, a lot easier. Could very easily use the bag for sun relief, also. I would upgrade to a foldable saw, also. Redundancy might also save your life, or increase your trip pleasure. Liked your video!

Great video followup to the Dollar Store BOB. I would say for the weight, and cost, there or options between the welfare BOB and your modest upgrades. For 1-2 person shelter, bivy tents are warmer, lighter, and cheaper than a decent tarp (wenzel current tent). The Sawyer Mini is $20 and Outdoor products collapsible 1L bottle ($3 at Wally World) with a "smart water" cap doubles to backflush the filter. Other things I think you were spot on. The Mora is the perfect knife for a mid tier system. I actually use everything I mention here in my summer backpacking in the Rocky Mountains.

You guys are ridiculous you're telling people that they should not bring stuff to procure food in a bug-out situation traps is a food Gator where you don't have to be there the entire time and beeville hunt and fish for your food is just common sense good you're not going to survive and you're teaching people not to survive in a bug out situation by telling them not to bring it is somebody who is gone to survival School in the military looking at your video when you claim to be a veteran fossil makes me wonder how you can sit there and tell people to do stuff that could literally hurt them in a long-term bug-out situation which is what a bug-out situation really is is long-term
