Strangers Give Their Thoughts on Hijab in New York City. We went to New York City and asked random people and strangers to tell us their opinion on what they think about women who wear hijabs. We got some really inspiring clips that we wanted to share with you guys today. Many of the people were very eager to defend Islam and give credit and respect to the brave Muslim women who wear the Hijab everyday. Background on Hijab: A hijab is a veil worn by some Muslim women in the presence of adult males outside of their immediate family, which usually covers the head and chest. The word hijab in the Quran refers not to women's clothing, but rather a spatial partition or curtain. The term can refer to any head, face, or body covering worn by Muslim women that conforms to a certain standard of modesty. Hijab can also be used to refer to the seclusion of women from men in the public sphere. All of these beliefs are under the religion of Islam. World Hijab Day (WHD) occurs every year on February 1st and is an event to give recognition to the millions of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty.
