this has put so much in perspective - as a hopeful medical student i would want to work in a service that is provided for all, where i have the freedom to act in the best interests of all my patients and only be accountable to the taxpayer and the GMC; not to politicians or some over inflated American insurer! dr singer is completely correct - it is our time to fight for the service we all may not always love, but we know it is there!

I don't care whether his maths are right or wrong.... The simple fact is that the poorest people in society will suffer. This will cause HUGE waves in society! The NHS is our inheritance for fighting a World War. People will never forget that fact. ConDem us at your peril!

''Ron Singer leads the Medical Practitioners' Union ... and he sits on the general practice committee of the BMA.'' That is much to be doubted. Get it right, Unite. The BMA is itself a Professional Association / Trade Union. Perhaps you mean the GMC - the General Medical Council ? Get it right, Unite.

And we haven't fought for it. I'm a nurse working in a large foundation trust yet I've heard barely a mention of the reforms. When I talk to my colleagues about the devastating effect the reforms are going to have on the NHS I'm met with incredulity. Cameron's government in collusion with the media, including the BBC have been criminally dishonest about the privatisation of the NHS. The passing of this bill marks out the British public's political impotence in the face of corporate power.

Very articulate.It would be good for a government representative to respond as articulately.Lansley was said to be working on this Bill for 5 years,but it must have been sanctioned by tory central,as must have been the use of Mckinsey and Company,though who was/is shaking who...? Are the Tories that smart? Mckinsey and Company certainly are.Probably buy and sell the tories several times over.

Do the people who 'slagged off' this video even watch it and consider the implications? Perhaps they don't even realise how it operates at all. This isn't Tesco, it's the National Health Service. Spread risk, spread insurance, spread over 70 million people. I love that if anything happens to me tomorrow, I will be treated and no one will ask me what I did to earn that treatment, or ask for payment in return.

@m1trekker Effort-reward ratio is about RELATIVE reward between doing vs not doing (and between people), not absolute. If the consequence of simply not working is far worse than working, incentive is 100% unaffected. You can argue against tax rate for other reasons, but that's not one of them. Many millionaires retire young anyway! And the ones that control politics are laughing at you. They love gullible people. Nobody wants to remove any good work incentives, but ADD justice + opportunity too.

I really do support your campaign against the Bill, but this video is full of errors. The "£20bn efficiency savings" (ie cuts) are ONLY for England because health is a devolved service. It is £20bn over 5 years, and since the health budget for England is about £100bn that means the cut is 4% not 25%. Read my blog on False Economy for details

@m1trekker The UK can pay that price, but many of the richest people who control the political system don't want justice. Why can you not see that?
@TheNavigateur
12 жыл бұрын
@m1trekker Over 400,000 people receiving more than £100,000 a year. The top 1/100th own 21% of total UK wealth. The top 1/20th own 40% of total UK wealth (source: HMRC). That's more than enough to cover the costs and far, far more. It's a largely untapped source because many of the richest people who control the political system and print media don't want justice, and so appear to trick readers/voters as much as they possibly can, but the numbers do not lie.

But unless you can 100% deny that any of what this man says, & therefore prove to us that The Coalition is doing this out of the Goodness of their heart bless em & for Patients, WE ARE IN TROUBLE. So before you take the side of these Greedy suits who spend the precious half hour they have in the chamber bickering like children in a play ground, think of your own needs & those of your family who are going to have to pay for treatment.

Since when did Privatisation EVER produce good value? Train tickets soared. Energy bills rocketed. Profit driven private healthcare in USA costs each American over $4,000 MORE then the NHS costs each Brit. For that extra cash they get similar staffing levels, a lower life expectancy, a higher infant mortality, 50 million uncovered, millions more underinsured, and health bills being the top reason for bankruptcy and homelessness. EVERY POUND PUT INTO PROFIT IS A POUND TAKEN AWAY FROM CARE.

@m1trekker You're simply saying government shouldn't borrow and I broadly agree as they don't have to. But what principles would you use to set tax rates (the means)? Let me give you mine - the amount needed to create justice. What other methodology could possibly be justified? The only other way is let corruptors decide which has been happening for decades under your nose and you've been taking it lying down this whole time, like far too many in the UK. Perhaps you should wake up.
