I saw this on broadway with Howard da Silva as a young bride; I'm married 60 years now. The line "up your honor, bit by bit" brought the house down.

One of my favorite Boadway songs from one of my favorite Broadway shows. I too saw the original with Howard DaSilva and this performance was likewise, delicious!

Having just seen Nigel's superb performance in 'The World Goes Round' at Scarborough I thought I would check him out on the 'net and found this. I thought I knew a bit about musical theatre but this song is new to me! And what a brilliant job he made of it. What a talented, versatile performer he is. Checking back on my old programmes I see that I saw him in the West End in Les Miserables, Martin Guerre and Napoleon. His bio. shows he is much in demand but he does deserve to be more widely known.

I saw Howard Da Silva do this on Broadway when I was a kid, so I'm not easily impressed. You gave a great performance.

First musical I ever saw. I had the honor of meeting lyricist Sheldon Harnick, almost broke into: "And it mounted up, Your Honor, bit by bit. [slow chorus] Up Your Honor bit by bit."

I’m sure Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock (the writers of this show and Fiddler) would have felt honored if they knew the BBC included their material into the evening. Note: The show would go onto win the Pulitzer Prize.

Amy Klobuchar talked in her closing statement in tonight's debate about how her grandfather was a poor hardworking miner who saved his money, and I started singing this. I dare say he earned his money honestly, but still, how could I not miss the similarity?

Fiorello is the best unheralded Broadway show of the past 60 years, and since Donald Trump's corruption rivals that of Tamany Hall, it's time to bring it back. Wonderful performance and the original soundtrack version with Howard DaSilva is also on KZitem.

“Fiorello” tied with “The sound of music” for best musical of 1959. Coincidentally, that was the same year that “ Gypsy” lost! Many consider Gypsy” the greatest musical ever!
