When considering the time it was made, could be the greatest horror film of all time.

It's definitely in the top 10. A timeless horror classic. In Detroit back in 1976 they aired this movie on TV with "THIS IS A DRAMATIZATION" warning crawl at the bottom of the screen whenever the sheriff appeared talking about how to kill the flesh eating "ghouls" (as if a 1960's Black & White zombie movie would be perceived as a "real" event in 1976). I couldn't believe they did that but then again a lot of people still had B&W TVs in 1976 and, in fact, I watched it on a B&W TV although we also had a color TV.

I always found the scene when the lights go out and the incursion begins terrifying. The score combined with the fact the zombies have been kept at arms length up till that point. Seeing the zombie pick up the club and start smashing at the door really was dread inducing.

When I experienced that he made a film of the Dead before Dawn Of The Dead I was excited. My dear mother managed to order this restricted videocassette. When it arrived I just glimpsed the first few moments of that sheer black and white joy. My friend who was not into horror films dragged me into the theater to watch Beverly Hills Cop. Those were the days of excitment by the minute! Even though I loved that good, life-affirming 80s movie spirit my thoughts were at home in anticipation of watching Night. Because I felt from the very first minute that this was just the next ultimate masterpiece of that unique Man.

Seeing the remake in the early 90's as tween chilled me to the bone. Before then, I didn't know anything about the Romero style zombie, and thought nothing more of them other than what was portrayed in Thriller. It introduced me to all the Dead films, and changed me as a horror fan.

I still can't believe the music in this movie was basically royalty free and was used in a cheesy Bee movie that was featured on mystery science theater teenagers from Mars.
