More like Patrick Bateman. I would not consider Norman Bates to be charismatic, nor would I consider him to as disgusting as Patrick Bateman, due to Patrick Bateman possessing antisocial personality disorder and Norman Bates possessing multiple personality disorder. Patrick Bateman consciously enjoys harming, torturing, and or murdering others -- and derives an erotic satisfaction from his acts of criminality, murder, sex, deviancy, and depravity -- and does not feel any empathy towards the individuals whom Bateman harms, tortures, and or murders. Regarding Norman Bates, the original personality of Norman Bates does not really enjoy harming and or murdering others -- it is just the personality of his mother who enjoys harming and murdering others.

I love how Louis just absolutely jerks Rick around. When Rick takes three buses to make their interview, he nearly cries when Louis says, "It's an internship." Riz Ahmed does a wonderful American accent; he really kills it. I wonder how long it took a Brit like him to learn to talk like that.
@VladDImpala

gonstotwriter, for roles where he's required to play an American, Riz stays in the American accent not just during an entire filming, he also stays with the accent off the set. Riz did the same for the 8-9 month shoot for The Night Of, he kept talking in Naz's Queens NY accent 24/7.

I know everyone is always talking about Jake's performance and I completely get it, it's killer and I love everything he does in this whole movie, but I really do think Riz Ahmed should be discussed more. He completely shines in this scene and I think that's why like it so much. His role is so important--he's a stand in for the audience and seems to be the only one who sees Lou's behavior as problematic, just as we do. Also, thank you for including the ironing and laughing bit at the beginning--I know it's not technically part of the interview but god is that "practice laugh" so great to watch. Strange, chilling, creepy--I love it so much! The more I watch and analyze this film, the more appreciation I have for it.

Nightcrawler diner is Dinah's Family Restaurant and the one from Pulp Fiction is a placed called Hawthorne Grill, now demolished. So this diner is not the one from Pulp Fiction, Drive or Reservoir Dogs. They all have similar interior though, most noticeably the stone walls. I'm guessing it's an LA thing (or California thing). Why would Louis order a drink for Rick? Louis is a criminally demented sociopath.

Jake was absolutely brilliant in this. I’m a casual movie fan, not a huge movie buff, but this is in my top 5. I always laugh at 2:53

I read a early script for Nightcrawler and apparently Rick was supposed to be cast as a young Asian man but I think Riz Ahmed worked out really well. He did great.

2:01 The subtext in this scene is so layered. "Why hire you? Sell Yourself! You trick. That wasnt a question. Plenty of straight guys trick." This whole meeting is Louis interviewing his previous self. We never know what louis was like before the movies starts but clearly he did all of these things rick did and was just so determined he rose to the top.
