Here is another great review where you can get an idea for what the reticle looks like while engaging targets at 1x and 8x: kzitem.info/news/bejne/pWZ6yZuqfpOqbKg

So I don’t think this scope was intended to be a precision optic, I think it’s main purpose is a fast combat optic. Paul

Paul, Thanks for watching and commenting. I said about as much in the video. If you want a true precision optic, there are better options out there. That being said, you can make this work in a precision application if using the hold-over method. I can get 1-2 MOA hits out to 600 with a .223 with this setup, which is plenty "precision" for a SPR.

I'm currently trying to decide between this and the Vortex Razor Gen 3. Purpose is an accurized 14.5" pinned build. So the compact size does factor in.

And if you find a demo model, the NX8 isn't much more expensive. I wish I could get some trigger time with a razor and do a true side-by-side comparison. Lots of people like them and I do like how the reticle is so much more simple / crisp.

I recently bought a Christensen Arms MPR in 223 bolt action with a 16 inch barrel. Would this be a decent scope for calling in coyotes to close range under 100 yards and also shoot little gophers out to 100 yards ?
@thebasicswithblaze2569
4 жыл бұрын
I'm not a huge hunter and I've never hunted coyotes or shot gophers BUT given my knowledge of the subject matter and mainly of this scope, I'd say it would do the job ok BUT you may be better of with something like the vortex razor 1-6 with a less-busy reticle. My thought is that you don't want to have the center cluster distracting you while focusing on the minute movements of the gopher or trying to get a precise hold on a coyote. Especially if you miss, you'll want to see your splash, which may be difficult with the optic at that range. Additionally, I don't think you really need 8x magnification for a 100 yard shot and you won't particularly benefit from the more precise reticle either. Personally, if you know you'll be shooting primarily around 100 or closer I'd save some money and go with the 1-6x TBH. Super plain reticle / best glass in town / huge eye box ... That being said, if you just really like this optic or have plans to use it out past 500 yards to bang steel or other targets, then I would recommend it over the 1-6. Even if you will only take shots around or inside 100 yards, you could definitely make it work. I think that you'll still be able to see a lot of what is going on through the center cluster at 100 yards, so it may not be a huge issue. Hope that helps! I'll try to do some shooting in the coming weeks at 50-200 yards at random targets and get back to you.

Which scope would you say is better for precise shooting at the longer distances, Primary Arms SLx 1-6x24mm FFP Rifle Scope - Illuminated ACSS-RAPTOR or the NF NX8 1-8. People like the ACSS reticle.
@thebasicswithblaze2569
3 жыл бұрын
I have never uses the ACSS, but yeah people love it. Personally, I didn't even consider it b/c it's a BDC-type reticle, which I don't prefer. I'd rather have MOA/MIL where you know the exact measurement and can hold specific numbers vs. hoping that their reticle matches up with your rifle/ammo and the external conditions. To answer your question, I would say the NX8 b/c you have a more refined set up hashmarks to use (if you are using hold-overs). The glass is probably better and you have some refined windage marks if you want to dial elevation and then hold windage. on a

Is there really any LPVO that’s meant to be just left on? I get the whole idea of wanting to keep it on for duty but none are really that great. Especially if they are daylight bright.
@thebasicswithblaze2569

Probs not... I think that feature is more of a perk than a necessity, even with red dot sights. I can't imagine too many scenarios where you have ready access to a rifle but don't have time to turn a knob before use. Perhaps it's more of a feature that allows people to keep it on so under stress it's one less thing to worry about so you don't come up on target without your optic on. So in the case of an LPVO, if you come up on target and it's off, you still have the etched reticle that you can use.

I'm deciding this or the Razer gen 2 E. But so much complaint about the eye box for this. How bad is it realistically?
@thebasicswithblaze2569

Sorry for the delay... YT isn't notifying me of comments for some reason. To answer your question: I haven't noticed an issue with it... I have only ever used it for long-range shooting and a little 2-gun action that you can see in other videos. I have never used it in unorthodox positions or anything like that. The optic is totally usable in both 1x and 8x. I think the eye box is really only an issue if you want maximum Situational Awareness or CQB capability. If so, I'd go for the Razor. If you just want something for plinking / long-range shooting and don't care about speed / max. vision ("width" wise, for lack of better word), then I this will be just fine. Hopefully that answered your question. LMK if not or if you'd like to see anything done specifically with the optic as a test. I'd watch the link in my comment because that shows the eye box of both fairly well.

This is more of a close to medium range cqb and patorol type optic. Definitely not a precision piece the reticle makes that known immediately. Great optic for what it is used for...
@thebasicswithblaze2569
4 жыл бұрын
That's what Sage Dynamics thinks as well, although I don't think you need such detailed MOA drops for a close to medium range battle rifle. The 1-6 works better in that role IMO. I think the center cluster, like I said, makes it more difficult to be used for precision applications, but the hashmarks on the vertical line make precision work easy once you get out to the proper range. I've had sub MOA hits at all ranges with this system, despite the center reticle, but yes... if you want a TRUE precision SPR, go with something with a more refined center reticle.

It's a PRS tripod (Precision Rifle Shooting). Pretty good deal especially compared to the multi hundred dollar options out there. Not as solid or versatile but gets the job done for spotting, filming, and shooting. I did a review in a previous video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uWNtmmiNqZ6qgmU
