Downloaded this a couple of days ago and really like it. It works logically and covers most of the stuff most photographers need. Also it is FREE!!! - no more nasty renting (Adobe's biggest error) I used for a while the original NX and this is a great step forward. Thanks for posting this really useful overview.

I recently brought out my Nikon from a long hibernation and discovered NX2/Viewer is now NX Studio. Your videos are great and you clearly explain the various features. Look forward to seeing what other videos you produce for using this software.

What is the best way to utilize the 'Show sequences as single images' feature for BIF or a burst? I activated and deactivated the icon but nothing changed in the filmstrip. Thank you for your help. ❤

Hi what's the lens keystone or distortion features like. I used to use Photoshop raw to correct a fish eye lens i have. Plus one thing that would be fantastic if Nikon could add in the future is teatherd shooting. PS is there no filmstrip view that runs along the bottom.
@PhotoBlue

It does have a filmstrip function, and you can actually have the filmstrip horizontally or vertically. The program has some lens correction features including auto distortion control which you can turn on or off. I have not tested that function, but it looks pretty basic. Tethering would definitely be a cool and useful feature to add.

Hi, in the new version of NX Studio, 1.2.1, I can't use the Adobe RGB 98 color space, neither can Profhoto, doesn't it have those color spaces?

Good content. It’s a shame this software isn’t getting much media coverage. It seems Nikon doesn’t have many supporters in the media these days. I downloaded the software yesterday & I was pleasantly surprised by its quality given its free. While I still prefer the Mac Photos app for now, NX studio has some clear advantages. More intuitive / windows like file management system being one. The greyed out back button suggests more functionality will be unlocked in subsequent updates. This is a great way to appeal to novice & enthusiast photographers.

I am glad you enjoyed the video. The more I look at and think about NX Studio, the more amazed I am at it. I have looked at and used a lot of different software of all types, and software and smartphone apps from camera manufacturers tend to be pretty minimal and unfinished looking, particularly if they are free. The notable exceptions to this rule are Da Vinci Resolve, owned by Blackmagic, and Capture One, which is owned by the parent company of Mamiya, but neither of those really fit into category of the typical free camera app from a camera company and Capture One is not free. That being said, Nikon NX Studio, is probably the best free camera app ever put out by a camera company. I hope you are right about future updates being unlocked. I think there is a lot of potential for additional updates that will make this software even more amazing. In fact, Nikon could potentially keep a free version of the software for Nikon raw files, and offer a reasonably priced version or upgrade that could read the Raw file formats of other camera manufacturers. For example, they could offer Sony and Canon users a feature update that would read those file formats for a one time $20 fee, kind of like some smart phone apps offer a free version, but offer additional features that can be unlocked for a small fee. Nikon is an amazing camera company with an amazing history. I know Canon and Sony are out in front at the moment and tend to get a lot of the press, but you are right, this software definitely deserves more attention in the media.

I wish I could use this Nikon Studio software. I like everything about it, especially now that I have the Nikon Z9. Unfortunately the software is champ in crashing all the time on my Mac OS Monterey. I can’t accomplish anything using it. I am forced to pay and use Capture one 23 Pro which is the only one capable of reading Z9’s NEF files. Can’t seem to understand why Nikon Studio crashes all the time…

Will it allow photo merge to create an HDR image?
@PhotoBlue

Not currently, but it supports something called Active D-Lighting which is something that is supposed to be similar in effect to HDR, but not as good or as flexible as HDR. I believe D-Lighting basically does some extra adjustment from one photograph.

Raw files can be interpreted in a lot of different ways, and Nikon, Canon, and Sony all have there own RAW file formats and their own color science for their cameras. The nice thing about using Nikon software for Nikon cameras is that no one is going to know Nikon color science better than Nikon.

It actually lists that it is compatible with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, but it is only compatible with 64bit versions of the operating systems.

Thanks, nice review. It's definitely step into the right direction. I've downloaded it a gave it a try, for the most part, I like it. However, I can't understand why white balance isn't available for jpegs. Also, keywording tool is a welcome feature, but it's not very intuitive and useful, at least for me. Ali in all, I like it. Thanks for the good presentation 👍
@PhotoBlue

This is the first version of this software although it is based on and combines features from several previous Nikon software apps. So the fact there is not white balance on JPEG is arbitrary. They may add it on the next version with any luck. Also, hopefully some of the things that are currently less intuitive they might fix or improve.

Hiya Milos, I haven't gotten fully into this new NX Studio yet but as a subscriber to Adobe`s Photography Plan you have the same issue in Lightroom of not being able to apply different White Balances to JPEG`s, but I watched a great video a while ago from a guy I follow called Anthony Morganti who is prolific in YT instructional videos mainly on Lightroom, and in one he showed how to load a Raw photo, anyone will do, and then copy all of the White Balance settings, one after the other for Cloudy, Sunny Fluorescent, Tungsten, Flash etc and make up a user preset for each one. Then when you import JPEG`s, you can apply any one of these WB Presets that you've now created and still get Cloudy, Sunny etc etc as an option to use when first starting to process a photo. Now I haven't gotten well enough into NX Studio yet to even know if they use Presets, BUT if they do and you can make up User Presets, then you should be able to duplicate this work around in that software as well!

Where is the button to edit in Black and White?
@PhotoBlue
3 жыл бұрын
The current version of NX Studio does not support converting a color photo to black and white. In most photo programs, you can bring the saturation level down all the way and it will emulate a conversion to black and white, but NX Studio you cannot bring the saturation level down low enough to remove all the color. Hopefully, they will add the feature in in a update. Both Affinity Photo and Photoshop have custom filters that allow you to not only convert to black and white, but adjust contrast based on the color of an object in the original color photo.

If you go to the adjustments menu, you can copy all adjustments and then paste them to another photo, or you can save all adjustments and load them into another photo.
