I would argue its not the lens, it's you that has made these photos beautiful. The lens is the first and weakest of the z line up when looking at details and image rendition, but you prove they are all good enough. Us Nikon users are desperate for a better 35mm and 28mm lens line up. Shame they just released an in superior 35 1.4 .

Thank you, that's really kind. I have not been using Nikon for a while, but am always interested in what they are doing! Thanks for watching 🙂

To answer your question: I just moved from an X-Pro3 from an X-Pro2 because it’s nicer to use. However, I actually think the images fro the 2 look slightly better than 3. Furthermore, I use the Fujicrons because they contribute to a nicer experience with their compactness, espescially with the OVF. So yeah, my answer is yes. Not that I think the sacrifice will be big, most cameras can take amazing photos. As for Nikon Z… considering their legacy and their dabbling with the Df (tho done poorly), I’d really hope maybe Nikon would offer modeless exposure triangle control ala Fuji. Very disapointed that they didn’t, or at least had aperture ring on all lenses and maybe a few models with those kinds of controls. Does’t have to look retro, that’s not the point. The all style and little substance of the Zf just further hughlights how Nikon seem to view the legacy of their own camera like FM series as mere aesthetic. Such a shame. I guess it’s only Leica who also has cameras with modeless UI for exposure triangle. (Except Panssonic LX100, but I bet Leica had huge influence on that camera considering the D-Lux 7). And speaking of Leica and lens sizes. Rangefinder lenses don’t focus close at all! Becomes much easier then. Fuji kiinda did something similar with their Fujicrons, some of them not sharp wide open close up. Personally I’m kinda saddened by how all we get are these huge lenses (sans Fuji and Leica). I guess consumers are to blame. When Sony first launched the A7 they also came out with the Sony Zeiss 35mm 2.8 which is beautiful. But it was their big fast optically perfect lenses that got all the attention.

Hi Chris! Just wanted to thank you for being an inspiration and one my best find while stressed from work/life and stuck in quarantine last year. From among the many creators in KZitem, I found your photos and style of video the ones that I loved the most. Last September, I finally bought a Fujifilm XT-200 and began reading photography books. Photography definitely gave me an escape from my routine and relieved some of my anxiety. I'm still a novice but I hope that one day I can capture photos with a similar feel and beauty as yours have 😁

Hey Jerwin, thanks so much, that really means a lot to me. I also find photography helps relax me - it gives a way of seeing the world and appreciating it. Thanks again.

Beautiful pictures Chris and absolutely love your style. I agree with you about the size of the lenses but get why Nikon made the decision. I think the beauty of the system is that with the Ftz we can adapt our old f mount glass for that look but sort of takes away the benefits of a smaller body. 👍👍

Thank you very much Garry. I think I a bit naively associated mirrorless with small and compact. With the Z9 they dispelled that myth :-) I think I would love a squarer body with a smaller grip - plus some smaller lenses that would be great for me.

I just recently switched from Fujifilm to the Nikon Z6II and I must say it was the best decision I ever made. Yes the camera is a bit larger and the lenses too but I am ok with that.

Hey Nicholas - I've been with both for a long time and mixing systems between different jobs. What are your favourite Nikon Z lenses?

@@ChrisBoland My favorite has to be the 50 1.8 S - That is a superb 50mm in just about everyway. Its hard to take a bad photo with it! Haha. However, I really been enjoying the new 28 2.8, I got mine in the SE flavor and it looks stunning on the Z6II, reminds me of using an old f-mount AIS lens. Image quality isn't perfect, but its very good price considering and its been really fun making the camera smaller and lighter for everyday carry. The 24-70 f/4 S isn't a bad lens either, but overall I just prefer primes but its handy when I need the flexibility and it has really great close up performance. I wouldn't mind if you made some more videos featuring the Z system 😉

I consider selling my 50 1.8 s every time I pick it up due to the size and how self conscious I feel using it, but I fall back in love with it when I see the files. I shoot less but like what I shoot more.

Hi Chris, i was wondering if i could ask you, how did you find the autofocus in the XE-4 with the old 35mm 1.4 Fujinon (50mm equivalent) you used in your trip in Spain? I've heard the AF in that lens is slow and noisy, but also that XE4 has top notch AF technology found in XT-4. So, i was wondering, how does this helps with the 35mm 1.4, thanks!

Hi. I would say that using the newer cameras like the XE4 or XT4 makes all the difference. I'm extremely happy using the old 35 with those cameras. It's not the same as using one of the newer lenses, but it's absolutely fine. In fact the E4 plus that 35 is one of my favourite combinations now.

I really love the f1.8S lenses. They’re better than the f1.4G lenses and I think have more character to them as well. Also the S lenses work wonderfully for video with no breathing and natural smooth quiet autofocus. They are larger, but I don’t really mind considering the upgrade in image quality.
