It’s unapologetically factual. The truth is sad sometimes.

Nina Simone was one of the greatest. I have a bunch of her CD's/MP3's. And I agree with your assessment of art. I have a poster with a saying from Bertolt Brecht---"Art Is Not A Mirror Held Up To Reality, But A Hammer With Which To Shape It". Take care. And keep playing more of Nina Simone.

Wonderful reaction video, and your points are correct and well-stated. We should not be afraid to feel uncomfortable when faced with truth. It's the only way we grow and become better people.

I can't imagine living in those times. Like just conducting your life and things like this actually happened, and you just continue with the laundry or whatever meaningless chore. I would be so terrified and traumatized.

My grandpa grew up in SC in the 30-40’s & moved up north after his service in the army ended. he was a super stern man. He only spoke more that 5 words to us , his family. Everyone else got basic responses. My grandma was HIS WORLD, the amount of times I’ve heard about him pulling his revolver out in defense of her is nuts. They were an amazing generation

Billie Holliday gave birth to this song and exposed many to the bitter sad reality and the song and her were banned for it and through it all she remained unapologetic and irreverent rightfully so, Nina painted this piece with new colors with such sentiment dropping the notes at the same time as the grave notes of the piano, excellent rendition

Billie Holiday first turned this into a song, but it is an original poem by a Jewish citizen who released this poem under a psydonym who could not fight back in any other way. As a teen, this poem showed me the power that words can have to move people and to perpetuate change

I think they would ban it today considering what is going on in our country.
