His lyrics are so intelligent - so aware of the varieties and vagaries of human suffering (with some joy, too). NIN are immense. In a GaryNuman interview he says, with a laugh..."Trent was asked to write a soundtrack for a film. And wins an Oscar!". The guy is on a higher level than anyone I've got into and I am a top musician who picks the music apart. I still say Jerome Dillon is THE NIN drummer. Freese was spot on machine drummer (which oddly didn't suit NIN so well), Ilan Rubin is a fantastic drummer (ambidextrous he told me when I asked because his style is strange) and so I learned how to drum left and right handed and owe him a debt of gratitude for this...it really opens the kit up. But Jerome Dillon is the ’art' that live NIN works best with. I'm a guitarist and synth bod...mainly because of NIN in 1989 at the Astoria in London.

I went down a rabbit hole of videos pertaining to NIN and crossed paths with this one which I knew I had seen before but never put a comment on. I was at this show, maybe six or seven rows back from where I think this was being filmed with a buddy of mine who died a few years ago. This brought back memories of an amazing concert, drinking beer and singing along with Trent that night. Something I hadn't thought about in a long time. Thanks for recording this.

It was written as a lead in for live shows, after the album. Much like pinion did for wish during the broken era. It only exists as a live song, and from live recordings. It was indicative of the turning point of a lot of self loathing and anger that came through in broken and extended to the downward spiral.
