Imagine being at a Nirvana gig in the late 80's and telling someone a day or two later "i went to see a local band last night, they weren't bad". Then two years later suddenly having that same memory and knowing you had the privilege of seeing Nirvana in the early stage of their career becomes one of the most significant, vital, and rememberable moments of your life.

This is such an important gig in the history of Nirvana. This was the first time Kim and Thurston from Sonic Youth saw Nirvana live. There's a gig that Sonic Youth did in 1984 out in the Mojave Desert. The Meat Puppets and the Minutemen (RIP D. Boon, 1958 - 1985*) and other bands were also there. Thought I'd just pass that along. It's on film under the title "Desolation Center." * He died in a car accident when he was laying in the back of a van with the flu, trying to catch some sleep. His fiance was driving, the rear axle broke, the van flipped over, he fell out and broke his neck.

This show took place 45 minutes away from my house and since Nirvana played at J.C. Dobbs in Philadelphia, PA the night before (July 12, 1989) Nirvana would of Drove down the Highway passed my Town to get to Hoboken, NJ for this Maxwell's Show on July 13, 1989. But Yes, this was the first time Kim and Thurston from Sonic Youth and J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr seen Nirvana Live. They were brought there by Susan Tennet (who worked with DGC and Sonic Youth and had an office in Hoboken) After the show Nirvana hung out with Sonic Youth, Nirvana first Opened up for Sonic Youth for 8 shows in August 1990 on Sonic Youth's Goo West Coast Tour (Nirvana had Dale Crover on drums at the time as they didn't have a drummer). Then after Recording Nevermind Nirvana opened up for Dinosaur Jr for 10 shows June 10-20, 1991 on Dinosaur Jr Green Mind West Coast Tour And then Nirvana Toured with Sonic Youth in August 1991 across Europe which some was documented in the film "1991 The Year Punk Broke" by Dave Markey.

I'm surprised that I haven't come across this recording until now. You're right. I mean, yeah, remastering lo-fi audio recordings always comes at the expense of some of the original dynamics, but in this instance the net gain in sound quality is without question worth it. Kurt's vocals couldn't be more inspired, the performance as a whole is exceptional.

he just made the stage image of nirvana too metal here. he takes the edge with his random insincere headbanging and I am sure Kurt was aware of it. Its so important for a band to play good but also to look good. Check the book Commando of Johnny Ramone where he insisted on their stage behaviour where Joey was placed in the middle and was not allowed to dance, wiggle, etc. and DeeDee had to be a mirror reflection of Johnny, to move back to the speakers and front to the crowd only when Johnny does that. Nothing is random.

Mind blowing. I just hit 41 on the 16th, yet it seems like maybe 10 years ago I first got my hands on a cassette that began with a garbled chunk of Chris' Jefferson Airplane prelude into 'Territorial Pissings'. Took a few months for me to realize that side B was the 1st half of Nevermind, probably another year before realizing that, about 10 minutes after 'Something In The Way' ended, 'Endless, Nameless' began. Still remember running up the road to tell my best friend about the "secret song"😁

I think the high point was the Paramount Halloween show. Kurt didn’t handle fame well and lost his energy for playing the songs. They toured relentlessly as everyone had to cash in - add a toxic marriage and heroin and well we know what eventually happened. Thankfully, we have all this

The Paramount show is definitely good. If I had to make a guess on what their best show was after they became popular, I would say it was reading 92. That's been my favorite for like 25 years. But my favorite Nirvana is before they got big, the songs from bleach and incesticide. I love them as a garage rock band. So that's why I like the early stuff. They were still awesome live once they got big, I just really like that early stuff. I feel like they kind of had a little bit more of a metal influence then, which I love.
