Another great review. This is a neat little lantern, but I just get diffuser tips for most of my flashlights and then I don't have to carry an extra piece of gear like this that only serves one purpose.
@practicalguy973

Yes it was a great review and an interesting design but I agree with you, I'd rather use my brighter 18650 flashlight and pull out a diffuser for the very rare times its needed. I tend to hate the light produced by lanterns and diffusers. Its glaring to look at even in the corner of my eye. I always prefer the light to be pointed away from me. During a power outage tail-standing a flashlight in a room will get you more efficient and normal room lighting with gain from a white ceiling especially. When camping I hang my flashlight around the head so it points up in my tent also and prefer that. The only time I need a diffuser tip is on a table or out in the open but in many years I never needed that.

I loved this light before watching this review but now I'm even more confident that I need to get one. I'm also exceptionally interested in the Nitecore LR30 since it's basically the same idea but a little bit bigger, much higher output, and even longer runtimes due to the fact it can use 18650 batteries. I don't know if you were planning on reviewing the LR30 but I think you'd love it and I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Don't see the point of twisting to deploy. That would be annoying, would rather spring loaded or pull to open. Takes to long to twist it. Also not a fan of Primary cell lights. Lights are only as good as the batteries that power them.

Great video. What type of battery chemistry is safest for extreme temps? I’m getting this for a car light in Missouri, where temperatures range from -15 to 115 degrees. I’m less worried about degradation in power than I am about violent eruption. Thanks.

A magnet will only attach to ferromagnetic metals like steel or iron, not to "any metallic surface" as stated . ie. it will not attach to aluminium & copper, etc. Other than that, great review and a nice looking mini pocket lantern. Thanks for taking time to do this review.

An easy trick to almost double the light output that I have been using in my Coast AA flashlight is a 3.7 volt lithium rechargeable battery. Yes it does get hotter but not that much. Been using it daily for over a year with no ill effects.
@livingsurvival
7 жыл бұрын
A 14500 you mean, yep some can run it.
@practicalguy973
7 жыл бұрын
I got the Granvela K18 and that burned out pretty fast using a 14500. In the Granvelas case even though this little keychain light can produce 360 lumen with the 14500, using a AAA NIMH and only getting 110 lumen is more realistic. Maybe Coast is a better design for 14500 use.
@practicalguy973
7 жыл бұрын
I'll add that I work with an electronic engineering department and the route of all solid state failure is heat. The same circuit board getting hotter than another will cause its lifespan to be less. So even in the Coast flashlight, maybe using a 14500 you get a couple years if its designed well but maybe you get 10 years if you use a NIMH battery.
@wanderingcalamity360
4 жыл бұрын
Many lights will fail prematurely when using a 14500 unless they were specifically designed to use them. The Nitecore MT-10A is one such light and works well with 14500 or AA... But, it's not a lantern.
@TexasScout
4 жыл бұрын
@@wanderingcalamity360 This is true, most lights warn against it, however, my Coast recommends right on the package a 14500 for extra light output.
