A different perspective... I agree with your definition of masculinity, but I'll say this... a masculine man is someone who uses his strength to create a healthy living environment for everyone he touches. Safety, Growth, and success. A toxic man does all those same things to some extent, but only for his own purposes. Selfishness VS Service. That's the difference

@Trelleborg seems like a meaningless distinction... a nuclear bomb hurts everyone in its range, but the further you are from it, the less it affects you. I'm not interested in debating meaningless distinctions between technicalities when we both understand good and well that all I'm saying is that being close to healthy men is a good thing for anyone who is willing to grow. If I misspoke, I apologize, but it seems like you're just trying to nitpick instead of find any sort of common ground, so I've got no interest in continuing this discussion further
@OrbitImagination
Жыл бұрын
@Trelleborg Well, I must say I completely disagree that seeking common ground is a sign of weakness. You can't fight everybody and I don't believe you should. If I have a disagreement with someone, I'm going to tell them how I see it, tell them my foundation and education for how I see it, and tell them that I disagree with how they see it. From that point, we can move on to respectful conversation about other things (Finding common ground) and, even if the differences are too great to be close friends or anything of that nature, at the very least, they have learned to equate respectful behavior and strong, educated opinions with whatever topic or people group they thought poorly of before. It is planting a seed where, even if they don't agree with you, they will respect you. I'm no genius. I'm only 24 years old. But my wife looks up to me as her leader and my two daughters look up to me as the greatest constant in their young lives. My friends all trust me and rely on me without a moment of hesitation, and toxic people are repelled and repulsed by me because they cannot fathom living a life of transparency without shame and with nothing to hide. A life of conquering fears instead of hiding from them. I also call them out on their behaviors to their face and they don't know what to do with that except for laugh awkwardly and avoid me. My generation is an ocean of mental illness and narcissism, and the only plus side of that is that righteousness sticks out like a lighthouse in the dark. Leading without being controlling is difficult. A lot of times, it's the balance between comforting someone and telling them to suck it up and deal with the problem. I realized a long time ago that I can't fix people's problems for them. I can only show them how to sharpen their swords and tell them where the armor is weakest. Nourishing without micromanaging is the balance of protecting someone from mistakes and allowing them to make mistakes. It's determining which one will teach them more... It's connecting with people and being real about where you've been so that the path to where you are becomes clear. Well... it wasn't my intention to toss a book at you, but that does tend to happen with me. I am a home renovator. I do drywall, tile, flooring, kitchens, bathrooms, attics, basements, basic plumbing and electric, decks in composite, wood, pvc or anything else, porches, screens, shades, pergolas and more. In my spare time, I'm writing a novel and in my extra spare time, I started this youtube channel and I've been studying vigorously to learn how to do it right. Obviously, with a family I normally wouldn't have time for this, so I get up at 530 so that I have about 3 hours to work before I go to work and then I go to bed between 11 and 12 so that I have an extra few hours after my kids go to bed. I know that they will learn more from what they see me do than they will ever learn by what I tell them to do, so I'm making it a good one.

Sorry, but dysfunction is not a type of flavour. Being "nice" and weak is a dysfunction for both men and women. If your approach is "without drama life would be boring", then you're not yet mature enough. What you might mean by "different kinds of men (and women)" is different personality types. Absolutely right, everyone is different and that's good, that makes it valuable and interesting. A man that has more feminine temperament can still be very masculine, because it says more about his role, approach to life and values than how, for example, agreeable or disagreeable he is. I don't know who said it, but I like this quote "A masculine man makes you feel safe, a nice guy makes you feel unsafe."
@JB-jk3mq

@@JR-sx3gl there’s nothing dysfunctional about a man who’s not Uber “masculine” and the way this guy defines what masculine is? The men that show up in the vid as being “masculine”? Bodybuilding and physically oriented sports are masculine. Alex Eubanks is masculine???? Why, because he’s built? He’s also had extensive plastic surgery done and looks like a pretty girl. How is that masculine? What about all the men (and women) who are intellectuals that created these platforms for pretty (and ugly) boys to showcase what they think Is masculinity? I mean what you have to say has nothing at all in correlation to what my comment was. There are and there always will be all kinds of men. To separate them into masculine and nice guys is just plain asinine. And seriously whoever made up that quote has no idea what they were talking about. What you consider masculine is not what I consider and masculine. It’s subjective. I would any day feel safer with a nice guy than with someone that current society deems masculine. Because what society currently deems masculine IS extremely toxic.
@JR-sx3gl
Жыл бұрын
@@JB-jk3mq you still don't get it. You look at this and only see superficial. Listen to what he's saying without watching the images. Masculinity is not how you look, it's how you behave. I know very masculine skinny guys and fat guys. You have to distinguish between your prejudice and actual competence of masculinity. A masculine man can be 5'0" and not at all muscular working as an accountant and the kindest person you'll ever know. What makes him masculine is how he treats others, his self control and assertiveness, his high ethics, how he provides for his family and how despite his posture can stand up for what is right. He's the kind of man any son can look up to as an example of masculinity and all that without the artificial exterior.

@@JR-sx3gl his video sends a VERY mixed message. What he’s saying and what is showing are 2 very different things. A nice guy can be masculine. You may hunt at it in your comments, but that’s not at all what he’s saying. He’s insinuating quite the opposite. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter at all. Whether a guy is masculine to your thinking or not. He is what he is. There are plenty of types of men, forcing them all to be masculine based on what he or you think is masculinity is foolhardy.

No he's no Saint or perfect human being but you can't sit there and say he doesn't care. You're nice guy explanation was a little weak also, it honestly sounded like you were just spewing whatever came to mind. The whole nice guy thing, there's a deeper conversation to be had about that. You can be a nice person and it not be some strange thing. It maybe a rare thing to see but that's definitely the reality. If a man has no confidence, he's no masculine man.
