there will never be another Noele Gordon, her acting ability was legendary and her contribution to Crossroads quite beyond anything we had ever seen before.

I don't know if it was kiss and make up, she gave the best years of her life to that station, and they treated her so poorly. As one of her fans who loved her dearly, it was wonderful that she knew before she died that they needed her. Had she have survived the cancer and returned to Crossroads, I truly believe the soap would have continued. To those who made jokes about Crossroads, this was a show pumped out on a daily basis. I loved it as a teenager and as an adult. Long live Noele Gordon xo

Off the top of my head what did we have, the motel fire, the bomb explosion, the arson on the longboat, two house fires, which one burned down entirely... hmm there were no doubt more, and the plane crash about 20 years before Emmerdale did it (and they said it would never happen in real life at the time.. hmm then 1989 came.)

That sounds like the motel fire.. but they did have a few fires in Crossroads over the years.

Well by this time in 1985 she had signed a contract to return to Crossroads.. so I guess they'd kissed and made up.

She lied about her age, no one knew it was 1919 until the lid of the coffin had the date on it.

Nice but seen the unforgettable Noele Gordon on ITV. That said she was born in 1919, yet here it says 1923. Which one is right?

Why was she sacked? It seems strange especially when she was the star of the show,
@oliver91ist

The reason was that ATV was going to become Central and the plan had been to axe Crossroads so Noele's sacking from the show (she had a permanent contract) was to end the viewership.

Watch coronation street or emmerdale farm episodes from the seventies and you will see booms cameras in shot mumbling and fluffed lines and shady sets. They got to live and modernise. Crossroads didn’t so is forever stuck with the bad production label.

I think that is partly true - Crossroads remained looking out of date for a while longer, thanks to Jack Barton, but it did have a great revamp in 1985 that would have also seen Noele return if she'd been well enough. Corrie into the 1990s was still having booms, missing walls and the odd camera in shot -all seen on the ITV3 reruns, but for some reason its Crossroads that gets the stick for it.

@@noelegordonarchive yes you’re right. I still see booms on early 00s Corrie and emmerdale. Don’t think I’ve noticed anything on the modern shows but saying that if Corrie is on I’m rarely taking any notice of it anymore.

I often wonder if they just said that to make themselves look good. I can't see Nolly hitting it off with the egomaniac William Smethurst, one of the smarmiest men in TV (and radio before that). Don't speak ill of the dead and all that, but Smethurst was a total arse.
