I just bought Qcad pro to make 2 d drawings to use in sheet cam and Mach3 for my home made plasma cutter, also bought the ebook. Glad I did all the commercial programs are crazy expensive and you never own them every year you have to pay again. Qcad is a fantastic acquisition.

@iforce2d - absolutely terrific overview of QCad for beginners. folks - this is the tutorial you want to watch. i'm just getting into QCad coming from ViaCAD - the general operations for each is really quite different and i was having a very hard time understanding the fundamentals of QCad and making the conceptual leap from ViaCAD. i've watched a large number of tutorial videos and this one has been hands down the best for me. most of the other tutorials i've found try to teach by example by presenting a small drawing project and showing how to use a few tools to complete the drawing. this video though goes straight to discussing many of the most important tools in quite a bit of detail and most importantly explains the fundamental concepts involved in using them. really outstanding.

I really enjoyed watching this video. I first started using Q-cad, I also got the Q-cam. Watching this video I learned a few things I was missing. I have quite a few cad programs now. But I always am stoked when I use Q-cad. I think the way it works is top notch. Also really stoked watching and seeing all your amazing R.C. projects. Thanks again man. p.s. I was really impressed seeing the way you make paper patterns. Made my day seeing you using and explaining Q-cad.

Thank you that is VERY useful I have been an occasional AutoCad user for all my working like - but have recently retired and lost access to company software. QCad works a bit different to ACad and I was a bit lost until this tutorial. Now I can see QCad has some distinct advantages and is very efficient when you get going with it. Highly recommended - and a bargain at 33E

That was random as hell, but it actually worked out as a complete demonstration of the features needed to do a complete drawing since you were running through the steps you routinely use to complete one of your finished projects, so a thumbs up :) Been wanting to learn a CAD package for a while but all the tutorial videos have either been *too* random and unfocused or too overly focused and abbreviated, so this was detailed *just* enough to consider actually using this as a CAD learning app, and well worth the US$38 they're asking for the Professional version. One observation: I was worried about trying to remember the keyboard shortcuts you were using most of the video until near the end (the lta example I think) where you happened to point out the context popups actually spell out the keystrokes (they were unreadable on my monitor). Overall, the best CAD tutorial I've seen on KZitem. Well done! & a Merry Christmas :)

I usually write my CAD stuff directly in PostScript which is essentially a very handy parametric 2D CAD description language ... but it gets slightly less obvious for more complex projects. So I have on my TODO list to actually learn a CAD program like normal people. This tutorial might bring me closer to check that entry on the TODO list :)

Thank you for your great Guide! QCAD seems really similar to LibreCAD. I learnd 2D drawings in AutoCAD 12-14, but after my apprentriceship i wanted a free/open source software. This year i also found "SolveSpace" it's a really handy lite parametric 3D software. I use it to create 3D models for 3D-printing. Btw. SolveSpace is open source too. ^^

It's because LibreCAD is a fork from QCAD. The company of QCAD gave the source code for the community. LibreCAD and QCAD had two evolutions, being the second more solid and stable.

I like this program quite a bit. Handy for certain things, especially printing multiple pages of a larger design. A lot of other programs struggle with this task. I wish they could consider adding some 3d features or maybe even come out with a 3d CAD version. I think it could be a hit, if they kept the same intuitive approach. I'm considering their CAM software, but it seems to be limited to just 2d as well, and I'd like at least 2.5d. Thanks for the demo vid.

How would I align the center of a block to the Center of a circle? I dont want to find the middle between those two, but to set one blocks Center point to the circles Center point?
@iforce2d
4 жыл бұрын
I usually draw diagonal lines between the corners of the block so that I can see where its center is, then move it based on that and delete the diagonals when I no longer need them. If the block is axis-aligned you could also cut and paste the it, because the pasted one will be symmetrical, so you can place it at the circle center.

Thank you very much indeed for the tip. I have downloaded Fusion 360 and it is extremely good for 3D modeling, I have just started to learn how to use it. However, if you work on electrical/electronic engineering a 2D software like QCAD is still very useful for creating symbols, schematics, etc, provided that you cannot afford those super-expensive software for electrical/automation design(EPLAN Electrical P8, E3 Zunken, Engineering Base, SEE Electrical, etc.) I know you can use DesingSpark Electrical for free but I have not tried it yet. Again, thank you for the tip.

At most, free as in free beer. And haven't Autodesk crippled Fusion360 for those who run it under a student, hobbyist or evaluation licence just recently! Anyway, AutoDesk products aren't an option for me, be they market, technology, efficiency or whatever leader. For a start, I am trying to learn CAD/CAM as a hobby out of sheer curiosity and for the fun of it, and thus will never be able to afford their licence fees. But what is even more distracting to me, they don't have binaries for Linux and thus are pretty useless to me.
