North west here This is very true I drove an Australian couple around our estate and pubs on a sightseeing 30 mins because they asked while visiting the grandmas original home :) It was Christmas, cold and magical for them 😎👍

This is true. My husband and I moved up North for a couple of months. Day 1 and we asked someone for directions. ....10 minutes in and we both looked at eachother thinking " are we going to make it out alive ".

I was literally changing between tube lines in London and a girl from Yorkshire FORCED A WHOLE CONVERSATION ON ME. I think she was down for the day and just wanted to see what would happen if she started chatting to a random faceless commuter. Anyway it was really nice, I'm glad she chose me.

Looks like the overall consensus is: Big city people = grumpy arses, small town folk = lovely fellas. Seems to apply globally.

This is great, we have our own versions of northerners in the USA as well, specifically Northern Michigan near where I live what we call Yoopers, complete with their own way of talking just a slight variation, almost Canadian like, I love the variety in people.

I moved up to Yorkshire from Kent for uni and I had some drunk (but friendly) Irish lads ask me if I knew where Premier Inn was, so I looked it up and there were like 5 within walking distance. They looked at my phone, said something, thanked me and walked off. I have no idea if I helped them or not. I wish I had seen this video to know before hand so I'd have known how I could have handled the situation better. Keep up the informative vids!

Lot of talk about how this would go down in the North and South. As a East Midlander who travels both ways I find it quite fascinating. In London it's like you've stumbled across a city full of robots, programmed to perform a specific function - Current task - go from A to B. Barge through anything in between. Asking for directions interrupts the robots task, makes it recalculate like a satnav and try to refind its route. In the North like this example video you find total strangers telling you their life story. Ok, thank you. I now know where the train station is. I also learned that where the station is, there used to be a coal mine or something. And your uncle Bob used to work there till he started a chippy across the road. I also know about your brothers marriage which even his closest friends don't yet know about. But I have now missed the train I was trying to catch. If I could pick where to live though it would definitely be in the North West. Somewhere not far from the lakes. I would say in the Midlands from my experience in a city, we're 60% like London 40% like the lass in this video. I can't stand my local accent. It's semi Northern but has all the "Ay-up me duck"

As someone from the North West this isnt typical . It tends to be older people who go on the way you are describing The Midlands tends to be quiet haughty in my experience. London is reserved but its truly the rest of the South outside of London that come across as stoic . I would say the North is more laid back than freindly .

Years ago my girlfriend and i rocked up at a campsite right up north with a caravan in tow. We were the only patrons by the looks of it. I jumped out to get booked in and the girlfriend stayed in the car. Anyway, i think its possible that I i was the first human the woman in the house had seen for weeks (aside from her husband). Half an hour later i walked back to the car to a much relieved girlfriend who was starting to suspect that I was dead and she was next 🤣

Just yesterday I checked into a campsite in Gloucestershire. When I checked in, the warden and I realised we were both from County Durham. By the time the paperwork was done and the bill paid, we knew each other's entire life histories :))

You know, Northerners in England are just like Southeners in the US. It’s not an option to have a whole conversation and learn back roads and each others life story. It just happens.

Judging by all I know about the South of America is lynching, sun down towns and cousin humping. I hope not especially as the west country has already monopolised the incest angle.

@@Alex-cw3rz Not to mention the aristocracy or royals (although, surprisingly, cousin loving isn't the worst thing one of them did...) Southern hospitality isn't just a phrase though, it exists! Americans can be warm and friendly believe it or not.

Possibly, maybe! Who knows? But if so probably without the baggage of gun obsession, subjugation, racism, white supremacy, mob murder and lynchings.
