I remember back when I worked for Florida DOT on the mowing crew. We be changing blades on the side of the turnpike. We’d have to find a huge tree with a hangover park under it. So we’d be somewhat out of the heat during the summer months. Changing the center blades. Was never fun. We didn’t get to just toss our blades. They had to go back to the shop and I’ll break down days. We’d be in the shop sharpening blades.

for the side draw the "spouting" for lack of a better word control the flow by only allowing corn to flow out the side spout from the top down, they are set up that as the level of the grain drops it continues to pull from the top at side all the way down, not just at the spout level. keeps your bin upright

On our little farm we raised corn for cow feed. I remember when the ears of corn was getting close to maturity we would go out each day and shuck one ear of corn partly down and stick my thumb into the kernels. If they were too soft that meant that the corn isn't ready to be pulled for human consumption. There was a 3 day window in which you could find the ears of corn just right. If you skipped a day of checking the ears of corn the kernels would get too hard and it would not be eatable. When we got to the 2nd day in the 3 day window we would pull about 200+ ears of corn, bring them to the house shuck them . Some of the ears would blanch in hot water about 8 minutes, put them in an ice bath of water to stop cooking and put them in freezer bags and put them into our big 8' chest freezers. My parents would also cut a lot of corn off the cob and freeze it. Those were the magic numbers, 3 day window.

@@paulcopeland9035 He is most likely talking about a time in the past when sweet corn seed was not so widely available as it is today.
