That's so funny with the pedal pumping. We have a few old carburetors around the farm, and my dad and brother ALWAYS say to pump the pedal. But when I went to school for mechanics, they told me to NEVER do that. Believe me though, you will need the battery charger if you don't pump the pedal. I don't know why, but it works

If you want to keep battery's charged on Trucks and stuff. You need a cutoff switch (emergency cutoff) that way when you finished with the machine/truck cutoff power with the switch it will keep battery's from discharging as they won't be connected to anything all while the switch is engaged

Try cycling the key a few times before starting the service truck. Fuel pressure has to be high enough for the injectors to spray and after sitting it is probably loosing prime. Have to do that on my 89 TBI 350 if it sits.

The one thing we did with our camper (5th Wheel), was to use the battery disconnect on it so that the batteries don't drain as fast. However, we thought our disconnect was bad so my Dad ended up just taking the leads off the batteries that hook up to the trailer and that helped to ensure the hydraulic jacks would work. Long story short, we were reading the battery disconnect wrong and it worked after that. Just thought disconnecting the batteries physically might help.

Fuel injected vehicles with an electric pump usually run the pump for 10 seconds when the ignition is first turned on then fuel pump won't run again until engine oil pressure builds up. If a fuel injector leaks down or the pump check valve leaks down or a rusty fuel line leaks, it can take a long time to get the fuel pressure high enough for the injectors to function. Cycle the key on for 10 seconds several times to get the system up to full pressure before cranking the engine.

Coming from Minnesota I kept our garage heated all winter and we had a Crack on the floor that was about 4 inches away from edge of the door so I could wash the car and truck all winter. The water would drain into the Crack it worked perfectly so that was my indoor car wash. I'm a firm believer that it works better clean than dirty. And I was a Snap On Dealer then and when the temperature rose above freezing I would wash my truck then. We moved to Florida in 94 and by then was selling Mac Tools and that truck was washed year around. I'm a clean freak like you. I know boring!

I'll tell you, you have an ID10T error that keeps popping up, it happens to us all at some point. Just a note on the battery issues. Dirt, mud, grime, and road salt can be conductive even if they are dry. Disconnect switches won't prevent the batteries from dieing. The electrons are literally flowing through the crap on the battery's surface from post to post. Clean and cover them. 👌

A traveling salesman stopped on the roadside to watch a farmer struggling to pick up an enormous pig so that it could eat acorns from a tree. After watching for a while, the salesman got out of his car and walked across the pasture to ask the farmer a question. Why don’t you put the pig down and shake the tree so the pig could eat the acorns that fall to the ground? It would save a lot of time, the salesman added. The farmer looked puzzled, then replied, what’s time to a pig?

If that service truck has throttle body fuel injection and it has set for more than a week cycle the key switch 2 or 3 times before you try to start it (turn the key to on, wait for the fuel pump to quit humming then turn the key off for 5 seconds and repeat). Kind of like pumping the pedal with a carburetor.

Thanks for another great video. Appreciate your time to do the filming and thanks to Becky for editing. Lots of little jobs now before planting season hits. They keep a person just as busy. The battery drain thing. Am sure you have already checked for an electoral drain of some kind. And believe you said you have cutoffs on the battery system. Wow, just seems something is draining the batteries. I know you don’t like trickle chargers but might be part of the answer. We had trickle chargers on everything as it eliminated the problem. Tough situation Zach. Know it bothers you but is a common problem on equipment that does not have daily use. Hang in there. Good to see Jim. Nice guy. Great you have him to help. Good to hear your dad will be home soon. About it for now I guess. You take care and be safe. Looking forward to the Next video. Thanks for everything. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
