Watched this Game live that day. This was the best B.C. Lions team ever. That team should have won more than just one Grey Cup of that era . It was interesting watching that game of how the pro eastern broadcasters except for the Late Great Ronnie Lancaster. were really hoping Hamilton would win. But those Lions were just too good, even without injured Mervin Fernandez. Lui Passaglia had a great kick game that day.

My brother attended a social in Winnipeg the night before this game, grand prize was a flight to Montreal to see the game. He packed his bags as a joke and went to the social. He wound up winning and caught the late night flight to Montreal, watched the game and then had a return flight late after the game 😂 I still have the heavy and sweaty corduroy hat he got for me from the game.

This game was the moment when the CFL knew they could live without Montreal in the league.

I lived in Montreal then and had been to the 83 Grey Cup in Vancouver when the Lions blew it against the Argos. I wanted to see them finally win it but I couldn't get any of my friends to go. No one was interested. There were plenty of empty seats at the Big O. I should have just gone by myself but back then $30 was a lot of money for a poor student.

B.C. Lions of the 80s were a lot like the 70's Cowboys of NFL...dominating regular season , making the playoffs..but either losing in the playoffs (or the Grey Cup) more then they won ..had they played in the east like likely would have been in the Grey Cup more then mere three times (and losing twice) ,,,also if Fernandez and Jenkins had've been playing it likely would have been even bigger win

I wish for future NFL Super Bowls in alternating years the top announcers from CBS and FOX pair up together in one year and in the following year, NBC and ESPN. Also 1985 was the final time that announcers from CBC and CTV would co-announce the Grey Cup game cause CTV exclusively broadcast the 1986 game and CBC did it from 1987 up until TSN covered it

INCORRECT 1986 WAS the final season of a co CBC/CTV telecast beginning in 1987 CFL started the CFN a network of independent stations across the country that would split the CFL TV contract with CBC from 1987 to 1990 TSN would have a game of the week during this time
