I don't believe Luxon makes these incorrect statements by accident. He makes these statements for effect and doesn't care whether they are correct. He talks ALOT, far too much, it's all corporate speak, too give the appearance he is in full control. I worked for a Corporation for years and have met plenty of talking heads like Luxon. In some ways and to a lesser extent, he is doing the same as Trump, just say it often enough they will believe it. He is not a genuine or believable person,he is arrogant and exudes unwarranted self belief, it will eventually be his undoing. Unfortunately the damage he is doing, will take years and a heap of money to rectify.

In this video the newsroom group spent 15 minutes examining every aspect of Luxons problems with numbers and 'facts' yet never mentioned the obvious. He's deliberately lying, it's modus operandi for this coalition, and the fact that every statistic he utters strongly supports the case he's making proves it.

Nobody in New Zealand wants to be taxed to pay for speed bumps, taking away parking, weekly changes of policies, fripperies and things no one wants. Let them get funding from the private sector. Governments have got their jobs badly wrong. It is their jobs to ensure welfare for all. Community services and Libraries are essential to welfare.

@@W_Bin This is what central government does, they have all the brilliant ideas and then delegates to Council's to enact, without funding as will. Then lectures Council's on economics and appropriate expenditures, when their own economic performance is highly questionable (Cook Strait ferries). I'm sure Council's would love to concentrate on reticulated services, rubbish collections and pot holes, it would be far easier and cheaper than the multiple tasks central government dumps on them( rate payers).Luxon's over simplification of what Council's should be concentrating on is ridiculous and is just a throw away sound bite for public consumption.

Its the economy stupid! Labour has had an economic bypass, called "Rogernomics". They neither want to abolish it or build on it. Fiddling with the OCR is not a substitute for economic management. It never was. "Think big" was not a failure because of the size of the concept but with the quality of the economic thought. We are not so poor that we cannot afford to purchase/fund/create a great investment, we are instead, too dumb to find one. It makes no difference whether a project is government funded or privately funded, except that as a primary shareholder, the government has more clout. Sometimes that can be important, as in NZ Air or Rail. And sometimes not. The decisions re the Aluminium and Petroleum refineries show that markets are not God's answer to a strong economy. Neither have been developed or maintained. In an age of rapid technological change, the status quo is an inadequate target. We cannot have strong wages and weak businesses. The math does does not support that. We need to aggressively cut the costs of doing business, by relentless reform. "Not backing winners" is for cowards and careful risk-taking, our only hope.

As a numeric person myself (self praise but true!) I don't think most people are numeric by habit. To many people 88% seems like "a lot". To me is means "most". But to many more it seems weak. @Kelvinpaul4

@@ititeiri8840 National has always had an issue with Maori, not so much with Pacific Islanders ( excluding immigration dawn raids) However it's not only Maori bashing that the National party and most significantly, National voters indulge their disdain for. They look down on white trash, beneficiaries, unionists and socialists. The difference is that the Maori has been and still is viewed by a sector of Pakiha New Zealanders as inferior, physically and intellectually, which is entrenched historical and present day racism. The sad thing is they don't believe they are racists, because they believe their opinion of Maoridom is fact based, therefore it is not racist. There is also fear of Maori society, which is sizeable and a fairly well organized community with political clout and growing economic independence, this is seen as a threat to their social and economic status. Much the same as US Civil War white trash Confederates, whom many lived in worse conditions than black slaves, whom happily fought for the retention of slavery, to maintain their social status, such as it was. Anyway, it's only my opinion, based on my interactions and experiences with this sector of NZ society.
