Beautiful engines! Yeah, the whistles seem a little odd by American standards, but in an odd way they work on European ones. Makes me think of mystery, espionage, Hercule Poirot and James Bond, know what I mean? I'm not surprised they, like so many other MTH or Lionel products, are hard to find. The "hot" items get snapped up quick and then take years to resurface. I wanted a Jersey Central Camelbck for years, MTH or Lionel, it didn't matter, but you just don't see them anywhere. I finally found a Lionel CNJ Camel, paid more for it than I wanted to but as I said, you just don't see them. They disappear quickly! Fun video! By the way, if you've never seen "Murder On The Orient Express," the GOOD one from 1974, do so! Great European steam action in that one! Ever see a steam engine "waltz" out of the station? You will in this film!

A bit late maybe, but I figured some people would still like to know what the German voice line in the intro actually is. Now I am by no means fluent in Bavarian or their accent, so I fail to understand one word, but the context should be clear. Person A: "Sepp, hast du auch das *inaudible* überprüft?" Sepp: "Der Kasten war voll und die Streurohre frei!" Im also no expert in English termonology but this should be fine: Person A: "Sepp, have you checked the *inaudible* too?" Sepp: "The box (referring to sandbox) was full and the sandpipes clear!" Maybe someone can figure out the one word I wasnt able to understand in an answer to this comment.

The discrepancy of differing scales in O gauge comes down to the gauge of what we call 'O scale'. Technically speaking, 1/43 is most accurate because that fits the gauge of our accepted "O gauge" rails. For quarter inch scale (1/48th) our rails should be about 1/8th" closer together, this is where the Proto 48 guys come in. They stick with 1/4 inch scale which forces the rail gauge to be adjusted closer together for consistency. They recognize that our accepted O gauge track is actually too wide for true O scale (unless we build slightly larger models like 1/43rd). A Big Boy in 1/43rd scale would be approximately 1 1/8" longer and of course a bit taller and wider, it would be kind of cool. European makers recognized this and in order to keep the accepted gauge of rail, they built in 1/43rd and 1/45th to accommodate the commonly available track systems in both Europe and America. This accepted O gauge track of course started out in the toy train market way back around the turn of the previous century with Lionel and Marklin seemingly coming to an agreed upon gauge. However, 1/43rd, 1/45th and 1/48th ARE close enough to enjoy running together so enjoy!! Beautiful locomotives!!! I too love those whistles, they sound a bit like little Pennsy B6 switchers.
