As homecoming shows in Manchester loom, Oasis crash land in Cardiff for two shows at the Cardiff International Arena. The previous tour's gigs at this venue had been a major triumph for the band. On this occasion, that was not to be the case.
Unfortunately, this was mainly down to the issues presiding over Liam Gallagher's voice in their Irish gigs, for which it is alleged (according to Paolo Hewitt's 1999 book on the tour) that Liam is taking steroids in order to maintain his role as lead singer. While he is showing signs of recovery from vocal damage, his voice is not as note perfect as previous gigs but certainly still as powerful; which makes his performance at the second night at GMEX Arena even more mesmerising when this is taken into account.
However, do not let this discourage you this gig is still very good. The band put in a very good performance as usual and Noel Gallagher is experimenting with the songs lead guitar parts even more. Resulting in this being one of the longer recordings from 1997 and having excellent sound quality.
Thank you to the tapers and those who shared the gigs.
