Thank you so much for that first stretch! I always tell them it's the front of my neck that hurts and feels tight like it's pulling my jaw muscles and yet they always "treat" the back of the neck.... (I'm in round two of physical therapy for my neck)

Yes, I do. But I also have a leftward compressed nerve from stenosis at C4/C5, so it makes part of this hard to do (the first stretch, to the right side). To top it all off I have a torn labrum & biceps tendenitis in my right shoulder, so some of my PT exercises for my stenosis agitate that and vice versa... I have also had a TLIF (L5/S1) - but this, while painful, is no longer consequential. I've applied for an entirely new musculoskeletal system; interestingly, insurance has not agreed to this! :-D Are you in Austin? I graduated from college there yeeeears ago, when it was much smaller and less California-fied (coincidentally where I live now). If you have other exercises for suggestion, I'm all eyes.

@Gretchen Harbourt I get this a few times a year too, waking up with this pain. I had it last night from about 10:30pm until around 1am. And then it came back the next day, I know its from posture and truly from furniture that doesn’t support my back in sitting up straighter (old arm chair and sofa that isn’t firm, and looking at iPad🙃😕. And in past was from bad pillows, ugh.

I'll try this to see if it works. I'm not sure I have ON or not, it's a pain that hits me on the biggest muscle behind my left ear lobe. I wouldn't describe it like an electric shock but definitely like a pinched nerve. I've had it now for about 6-months, some days there's nothing, other days I have it almost all day. Oddly I never experience it during heavy lift sessions, more from when I'm relaxed (like slouching) or if I'm looking over my shoulder to the right (that's a product of working on a tractor). So far the only relief I have found is digging my fingers into my left upper trap, that or looking up at the sky which seems to pinch my neck but also relieves the pain somewhat. Otherwise it'll go as quickly as it comes. It's weird.

I’ve had this occipital never pain for a week now. The first exercise I didn’t feel any kind of pull. I do know , I’m placing my hands in the right position. But it’s not these front muscles that are tight. I think it’s the muscles in the back of my neck specifically the ones behind my left ear. If I were looking at a diagram/ image I could tell you which ones. But I’m sure you know their names. I will continue to do the chin tuck and the first exercise but I don’t think this one time today really helped my pain level go down.. I’ve been to a chiropractor but my insurance doesn’t cover them. So I’d have to pay cash. Same goes for Holistic doctors. Only Medicare covers acupuncture and Chiropractic care.

I’ve had ON for 3 years now. I’ve learned these, I need to do them more, but do you have any other recommendations? I’m so tired of the pain and migraines.

Thank you for the video. Is it normal for the Occipital Nerve area to be swollen? The back of the head behind my right ear, where it seems the general area of the nerve is swollen.

Thanks. I will try these stretches and see how it helps. Do you have any tips for waking up with this pain and also that I clench my teeth. Wake up daily with headaches and use a massage wand in base of skull and neck to relieve it but nothing lasts. Thanks!

I've been suffering for a couple months now..I don't do doctors so I figured it would heal ..I would feel better but then I cough like today and it felt like my head was tearing my fingers feel like rubber bands are on them I couldn't turn my neck to the right ..I did the exercises from 2 of your videos and almost fell asleep where I was because my body slowly started to feel relief..I have been suffering for so long today I was going to the E.R but I found your videos 1st . Thank you so much for sharing because you really have helped me. God Bless you

Good thing you didn’t go to ER, they would just charge you a bunch and diagnose you wrong. That’s what happened to me….

Pencil ✏️ trick works well with my occipital neuralgia. Tapping with the eraser end of it stimulates the nerves on the back of the head. It helped me relief the week long pain, I was in so much pain..

Can you please tell me where on your head you tap the pencil? This pain is so difficult that there are days when it is hard to find hope.

I hurt this area deadlifting. It's very tender. The stretches seem to have taken a little pressure off of the effected area. Not sure what I injured though.

I’m writing this comment to get some help for my dad. He has been getting electric pain shocks in his head when he laughs, cough, bending down and when changing side when he sleeps. He also recently starting having neck pain… I was hoping if this could relate? Your video is very helpful and filled with so much information! 👍
