Watched Orange Park some in the '06-'08 seasons before I moved out of the Jacksonville area. I do remember times where they were lined up before the offense was. They knew their roles and did them well.

This has been my defense for the past two years and I love it! Only thing different is I do still the TCU principles of having field and boundary when on hash, and passing strength with ball in the middle. It allows you to “look” like you’re doing more than what you are. Think you’ll love it as much as I do.

Coach, Great stuff!! We will be basing out of 8 this Fall as well. It has worked great this spring vs spread RPO with the 4i DE alignments and 2 gapping the NT. The Middle has been clogged up and hard for inside zone teams to get north and south and small shifting of LBs vs 3x1 to help defend RPO. My questions are 1. How does your Mike handle a Buzz motion from the RB to the trips side vs 3x1. (He gets out-leveraged by #4 if he stays in the box, We only have 4 in box if he runs with RB) 2. How would you get into your 46 Defense vs 22 or 32 double tight personnel? Thanks

Never liked only rushing three against the pass, not enough base pressure for my taste. But you bring up a good point, when the ball is being released in 1.8 or less the pass rush is almost nonexistent. Which is funny because I run timed passing that gets out that fast and even with really bad OLines my QBs rarely if ever even get hurried. Might have to rethink the style of defense I typically run.

Coach don't get me wrong, I love pressure. But this is an analytical approach to what we actually see. Most teams get it out of their hand quickly

I like this concept, as we got beat by misalignment quite a bit from other teams that ran some presnap motion. Mostly a 1 high team as teams in our league don't throw the ball too much or aren't very good at it. The only question I could see is blitz packages to weak and strong, how fast can the kids identify a shifting strength and flip the blitz, or identify strength and who is the strong vs weak side/backers. I'm guessing faster than having to align to strength and still sort those things out. Good talking points. Thanks coach.

a 5 man box always worries me. its one of the reason ive been a 33 guy since 08... i always want 6 tackle-to-tackle. all the other stuff makes complete sense, we are a right-left personnel team.. we dont switch

matt webdev, I’m playing in college right now and we have a 5 man box on 75% of the plays. We run a lot of quarters and a lot of blitzes involving safeties in the box. To run a 5 man box you need safeties in the run support or else it won’t work.

yea the college game is pretty different from HS. in HS, if a good OC sees a 5 man box, they will just run power till you get out of it.

I think the key with 5 in the box is the fact that the ends have the B gap vs being heads up or C gap.

You're awesome as usual. I came back to this video for ideas and I'll play with it a little bit. I jus need to add pressure package and I'm loving the 4i's vs spread! How did you're experiment turn out Coach?

Never wanted defense moving around based on moves, trades etc. Kept it static and worked our tales off on fundamentals. I felt like by keeping it static on D the offense couldn't move the D around based on formation for an advantage it's more personal match ups. We had a lot of twinner kids that could play in the box or in coverage. I like it coach, get after"em

Coach Mac, you have any recommendations on learning how to read defenses? They change a lot, and are kind of fluid but I’d like to share resources with young QBs that they can learn from. Well...both me and they can learn from. Thanks. And as always, enjoy watching your content.

Study as many defensive videos as you can. Focus on one thing at a time like 1 High or 2 High or Odd or Even.

Full time Dime package? Are you 2 gapping the nose. I’m assuming the ILBs are playing off flow and handing the RBs in coverage. I’m trying to do the same with the 3-3 staying static presnap (no flipping) , gives the kids mastery of stances and techniques from one side. Less is more! Best of luck Coach.

LBS will fit off under keys and flow, they will play coverage based on the call. Im trying to get it simplified.

In retrospective, after a couple of seasons, what's you're conclusion on the "Static-Verastile-Flexible" defense for tempo and not moving around? If you got the same looks but more run-heavy opponents would you still base out of it with more run blitzes and some man free calls? Thanks

We were 3-3 Stack last 2 years with 3 Safety Split Field Coverage. Very few personnel changes and we were better against the run than we had been in 15 years. We always start Static then build movement in. We did have some 4 Down stuff this year but still 3 safeties.

If they see a high hat they have ricochet outside. Or you can have one of you ILBS spy and the DE on that side can have a 2 way go.
