What's so crazy is it's obvious Debbie looked up to and loved both her older sisters but you can tell she really trusted Barb. When Carol was about to kill her tadpoles she called out to Barb to stop her, when they were both pushing her into the lake she pleaded with Barb trying to reason with her. It's clear she understood that Carol could be impulsive and had a tendency to be mean but that she could always rely on Barb to be rational and help her. The worst part is is that Barb knew that Debbie didn't want to leave that it was all their parents but yet she still killed her anyway. That's honestly one of the most sickening things of all and she was happy that she killed Debbie even though she knew that it wasn't Debbie's fault she just enjoyed killing her. Meaning she just love killing people in general. Which most likely means that if they didn't get caught Barbara probably would have killed other people or gotten Carol to do it.

I felt so sad for Debbie. The poor girl didn’t deserve such a brutal and callous fate. No one does. I think what this show does really well is depict how far sociopaths/psychopaths will go to get what they want, even at the expense of others. Carol and Barb got what they wanted. They didn’t have to move, but had to spend the rest of their lives in maximum security.

It also shows how small of a reason people may kill you for. These people have no empathy and thus no guilt and psychopaths can't feel fear or sadness, so this results in a lack of care. Unfortunately, some people will kill you for the tiniest of reasons when they're mentally ill. Don't forget, psycopaths are also impulsive.

1:08-2:00 is such a great example of how acting and sound design can impact a scene and the audience's view of the characters. The song "Maniac" is playing in the background when we learn that Carol has been thinking about murdering Debbie for a while but hasn't acted on it yet (it is more fantasy than reality in her notebook). It isn't until Barb offers a serious perspective of how to kill Debbie (1:40) that both girls' insanity and willingness to actually murder Debbie is apparent to the audience. As the music swells right before the chorus (1:45), Carol's reaction shows the audience that the threat is now real and her desire to commit the murder is actually going to be fulfilled. The chorus "She's a maniac" also plays directly after both girls have decided Debbie's fate. The humming scene (6:33) which recalls the chorus demonstrates not only their mental state and lack of empathy for Debbie but also has the added importance of marking Debbie's last performance with the last moments of her life. Such amazing acting from all of these ladies!

Barb holding up the locks was such a plot twist to me. I thought she was gonna change her mind about killing Debbie after that moment they had together with Barb saying she wasn't so bad. It just makes the scene even sadder because she trusted Barb and listened to her when she told her to get in the car. I think their characters were interesting but I wish we had a chance to see in more detail, what lead them to become so cold blooded.

Absolutely evil & avoidable. It's not that they wanted to leave home, they wanted to stay; Barb had a plan and approval with another family but their abusive father physically and verbally threatened her if she did that. So, leaving home wasn't what they wanted. Staying behind may have gotten them hurt (or not, idk,) but 100% what they did to Debbie is the most chilling and sickening thing on this show. No reason it had to come to that -- it solved nothing. I mean, it made them feel better I guess but it was never her fault, wtf.

I'm not defending Barb and Carol did. What they did was wrong. Not sure if was avoidable or not. It was the 80's. 16 or 17yr old's didn't really have much say back then. I don't know the solution. The only other option they had was just had to keep moving whenever the abusive father said. They were trapped in a tough situation. Sometimes when a situation like that happens. I don't think they cared they lost. As long as the father didn't win either.

I doubt the cops, however incompetent they might be, would let Barb and Carol go after investigating around. I still would love to see the parents reaction though, I mean I wouldn't know how to react knowing my youngest daughter, who I last saw a couple of hours prior and was supposedly left under my other daughters' care, is now a frozen corpse in the bottom of a lake, AND she was killed by none other than her sisters too.

Psychopaths however do not care a bit about their 'public images' they thrive off people's pain known or not, they tend to inflict it physically while sociopaths tend to inflict it mentally and emotionally they're often isolated unlike sociopaths who can be witty and charming to the eye, but at the end of the day they can be maybe even more evil than a psychopath

Especially after Barbara knew that it wasn't even Debbie's fault that it was their parents pushing that life on Little Debbie. It's absolutely disgusting. Because Barbara was still happy that she killed Debbie even though she knew that Debbie wasn't behind any of it. That Debbie didn't even want do you like competitively more likely she wanted to do it for fun. Which means that Barbara purely out of the fact that she loves killing people. So most likely if they had not been caught she probably would have killed other people or gotten Carol to do it. Now Carol on the other hand she killed Debbie because she believed that Debbie was the means to end all of her problems and genuinely hated Debbie. She most likely wouldn't have killed someone else I don't think if they hadn't have been caught but like I said she could have been manipulated into killing other people because of Barbara. But Barbara definitely would have been as most likely a serial killer if they had not been caught.

I'm literally sitting here hyper-ventilating unable to focus my vision. I watched this scene then came str8 to youtube. I'm legitimately in shock. This is one of the most genuinely chilling things I've ever seen.

If only life was that black and white. I think you'll find however that a lot of it is subjective and that good people can do bad things and vice versa. Edit: This is in response to @SamuelD1 "Dark side? You are either a good person or a bad person"

@@jdoe9496 you know it's for anyone other than themselves. It shouldn't honestly matter that they're real or not because they wrote this scene to evoke emotion. So you're actually fucking scary as hell. I'd be afraid that you would fucking kill me.

Yeah, they should have given her sleeping pills mixed into a drink or something and then rolled the car into the lake after she was knocked out. It would have been easier to play off as an accident so long as the coroner didn't find said pills in Debbie's system.

Octi its not that easy for two teen girls working at a diner in the suburbs to just get sleeping pills. It would have been better if they drowned her first, put her in the car and rolled it into the water.

i really wish we could’ve gotten even more of their backstory. i would honestly watch a spin-off on carol and barb. their upbringing, leading to them developing their psychopath/sociopathic tendencies, and then after the murder them FIRST getting into prison, more of them in prison when they were young and up until they both became bosses of their respective blocks
