Oh yes, the good old days. I spent my youth in drum corps (thank God). I remember watching Santa Clara in 73 and 74, they truly changed the game, such great shows. Thank you for posting this video.

I'm embarrassed to tell you I'm sitting here with tears running down my face. My wife was listening to Prokofiev's Classical Symphony and I steered the conversation to the "legit" Britten Young Person's Guide, then to SCV. I'm still, 40+ years later, blown away by what they did with this piece given the instrumentation of the time. Makes me proud of our activity (as if I needed anything to make me feel more proud of the D&B evolution). Thanks for posting this amazingly good quality recording.

Thanks, Ray.......this was an experience I'll NEVER forget in my years in the corps. The travel, the buses, the camaraderie, Gail, Chops, Pete, Fred, stealing the table lights at Bishops, SPLOOGIEEEEE!!, butt sliding in the showers, and most of all, THE PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICHES!!!! LEAD SOPRANO 1970-1974

Don’t you be embarrassed! That was a magical time. Whilst my brother and sister were blessed to be a part of this era of SCV (by the time I was old enough to try out, I chickened out after my first try and regret it to this day), SCV was a huge part of my family’s life. And yeah, I’m balling my eyes out, too, listening to this. Amazing talent, dedication and worth to so many young adults. So inspiring ! Thank you for sharing.

Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra was Gail Royers most impressive drum Corp achievement of all times. Bravo to this era.

I'm 65yo now and I miss these old days 😪. I'm ex Madison, falcon cadets, n l sufers. I understand the new D&B now a days and why things must change. But listening to this brings tears to my eyes back then and b4 guys and girls were stronger physically and heavier cause they had to be so they could carry those drums 🥁and horns, rifles cause they were heavy. Don't get me wrong today. I don't know if they could carry the drums back then 🤔. I don't like the sound of the horns and the drums. There tune to high the drills are better. Except it seems like most corps shows horns are on the right side and bunched together. I get that every thing changes. Crap on the field props, pits on the sideline, horns changing overall and pitch, the same for drums, guard equipment lighter, drills changing. Horn soloist are deafenily not better than 60's.70's and maybe 80's. the two or three that stand out are the two from 1975 Muchachos, Brady from 76-78 bridgemen, the two from cmcc warriors 71-73, Boston Crusaders 69-71 I know that I'm missing a lot of others I can't remember all of them and I'm truly very very sorry 😢 💔. I plead the new and younger generation go back and listen to and think about the type of horns that they played with. They were so much more fuller in tone and they projected better you can hear most mistakes lol lol 😆 😂 🤣. Same for drums 🥁 . And I know nowadays that the younger generation can't carry that chimes that 27th lancers carried in early 70's that suit was heavy. Now if you go to a D&b show they got there drums on stands...really really !!!!!!! 😔 o well in closing I still love ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ the drum corps and the new younger generation to but I'm not spending 75 - 100 plus on a show to see the horns on the right....ty ol'skool.

It was Paul Siebert who was the anchor snare here, 1973, and 1975, when SCV won 3 drum titles.

Back when we still had Real Drum and bugle Corp. Today we have nothing but marching bands. Nothing wrong with the marching band but definitely not a real drum and bugle Corp, call it what it really is.

I don't love the state of drum corps shows now, with all the props, narration, and weird movement, but shows from the 70s were even less entertaining because of boring drill and shitty sounding 2 valve bugles. The 90s were definitely the best, but I'm probably impartial, lol!
