Oliver's voice is the most soothing hypnotic voice. I feel so lucky to be a child back in those days. I love the lo-fi sound.

What memories, I can’t put into words how much this wonderful man means to me and the amazing programmes he gave to the world. He brought so much joy to so many children, what a gift he had. His voice is so unmistakable and his work ingenious. I never missed an episode. Iconic and inventive and incredible. And Peter was amazing and what a team full of talent. Thank you for the best childhood memories Oliver and Peter. Much loved and appreciated more than you will ever know. 🙏❤️☘️

I find this remarkable. Nothing evokes my 60's childhood more than Postgate and Firmin's work, with that soft, reassuring voice, Elliot's bassoon and the wonderful imagery. I was brought up on Ivor the Engine on cold, wet teatimes by the fire, and Pogle's Wood on lunchtime "Watch with Mother". I had no idea that Postgate was so political, and how much diffused into his work. But the commenters are right, there was always an element of melancholia, and looking back with such nostalgia and love, I can see it then, and why it still breaks my heart now.

My wife and I look after her little nieces - aged 6 and 8 who have been brought up (prior to coming to us) on a steady diet of American computer animation so I was apprehensive about showing them Nogging the Nog on KZitem but I needn't have worried - they were totally enthralled by Noggin, Nooka and Nogbad the Bad which is great as I get to watch all the episodes again and I'm 64.

Mercifully, it isn't Socialism or his background in it, that comes out of these charming films. It wasn't just 'socialist' his background, you see... It was culturally traditional and part of a wonderful rural way of life that emanated from Christianity - social charity - self-restraint, fair play, and enlightened desires for a classless future of humble, common decency. There is very little in common between the New Left today and what values OP espoused in his gloriously simple and relaxing films... (quite obviously). In fact, there were plenty of very, very conservative English/British values (like much of old Labour back then) and traditional views that he shared intuitively in his films. Eccentricity, kindliness and moral decency is not now, and never was, the preserve of the socialist left. Nor is low-key ingenuity and the cottage industry ... Anti-establishment attitudes may well have been often 'socialist' back in the day - but the 60s/70s/80s socialists 'won'... They now rule the roost. Scarily, however, the likes of OP are not represented whatsoever... Their revolution (like all revolutions are) was stolen by the new elite. The warmongers today ARE the 'left'. Brainwashing is the name of their game. The BBC is fallen - quite obviously. This country's humble and good people - especially in their rural, family, social and Christian nature (whether you like it or not) - is what is attracting people to these little films. The Establishment - such as the BBC today - has indeed thrown out the 'baby' - and all we are left with for our children to watch is cold and unappealing bathwater (for all the puerile speed and gaudiness). Traditions are not all evil. Often quite the opposite. Good old Bagpuss! (Good 'Old Possum', for that matter, too!)
