Seems quite user friendly - so a mix of pros and cons. Quick settings for common use cases, but not direct control over things like limiter parameters and low pass cutoff. I guess the filtering and limiting is in the digital domain? So if you're going to post-process you may as well turn these off and record for -12dBFS depending on source? But if you're hoping to use the audio without post processing you can use these features?

As it essentially has a mid and side set of mics, can one do a straight up 'traditional' M/S recording to then later decode in post (and, if so, will it do an internal M/S decode for headphone monitoring). Would make this a handy sound design recorder if so (also relatively easy to do with firmware update as the recording/decoding is straightforward). I will add a comment to the bewilderment over lack of USB-C here; I would think there would be a way to make a digital link to the EM1/X.

Just a quick question here. Have been trying to record with my LS-P5 now for sometime. I can't seem to get rid of the low noise rumble and hum. Its very noticeable the quieter an enviroment is. I record the LS-P5 to my camera with no pre-amps on. I use different mics, and the LS-P5 has definitely the loudest and most noticeable rumble. Any suggestions how to get rid of this?

Pity you've had no helpful replies yet on this... in your opinion, what is most likely causing the rumble--it seems like you've isolated it to the recorder used? I'm waiting for my LS-P5 to be delivered but I've used the brilliant OM DM-670 for years--however, you're unlikely to get the tech help you need from me. Are you using the elastomer OM cradle isolation mount and what camera do you use ie: an OM device? Am assuming you've tried all settings related to Low Cut Filtration, Scenes and even Zoom. The LS-P5 differs to the DM-670 in that the central mic on the 670 was really a bass enhancement device to extend frequency response down to 20Hz. Sorry I can't be more helpful but let us know if you've worked it out :-) Edit: Just received my own LS-P5. With the Rec Level set to High and monitoring with headphones, if the recorder is moved rapidly left and right there is a deep bass rumble or tone. This is something I didn't experience on the DM-670--my next move will be to fit a wind deflector and re-experiment.

Would this be unsuitable inside of a parabolic dish?

Great question... Am sure it's so versatile that you could make it work if correctly collimated to the dish and mounted. BTW, I am not an OMSystem rep... Why don't they ever reply?

Anyone tested the overdubb function with the LS-P5? It was a huge disappointment with the LS-P4, it was practically useless because of latency.

I love the compactness of LSP4 and P5. HOwever, the base mounting is very fragile and is in a odd position. LIttle push and the thing just broke on me. Also, the position is so poorly designed that you can not see through view finder with the microphone on. Quality for the size is excellent. But this won’t survive field work for long.
