Lol. I say just the opposite occasionally. It's like any other occupation. Work hard and never stop learning, ever changing technology but with blood sweat and some frustration from design engineers. This is an older boat and a great long time customer. We rarely see these anymore and most are in such poor condition they just aren't worth repairing due to costs. This boat though has been well maintained by the owner and is a nice rig. Like owning a classic camaro. We're grateful for the customer and his trusting us with his hot rod.

@7:40 when you put the boat in reverse you blamed OMC for having a crappy design when it comes to their shift interrupt switch! There is absolutely nothing wrong with these Sterndrives, A properly adjusted and functioning OMC Cobra will outlive a comparable MerCruiser! For example who removes a motor and sterndrive reseals the lower and gives the boat back to the customer not functioning properly? Once again there is absolutely nothing wrong with the OMC Cobra’s, The only problems I ever find with them is usually caused by the people who have worked on them! Another issue people never talk about usually due to lack of knowledge is the updated components that should have been installed 30 years ago that resolved all shifting issues! I will bet anyone a $1000 there is virtually no difference between my 1987 OMC Cobra and a modern drive by wire system, Knowledge is a powerful tool!

Some truth there for sure but multiple switches, a module & multiple adjustments, no other on the market yesterday or today with all this crap. I will say a new lower shift cable fixed it right up recently and he has the boat for sale now, running and shifting like new. It also received a new shift box just after the engine due to it being very loose. I'd say maybe it "Cobra" was a little ahead of its time like omc's electric shift that's redesigned & used widely today...I love your honesty though regarding "Another Issue" see quote!. " Once again there is absolutely nothing wrong with the OMC Cobra’s" "Another issue people never talk about usually due to lack of knowledge is the updated components that should have been installed 30 years ago that resolved all shifting issues! " Honestly from an engineering view it would appear only the leverage was off in the bell housing but to resolve that would be a huge re-design and they opted to overcome it by trying to control rpm during shift a little better. hey it works but its all gotta be close to perfect all the time.

You’re absolutely right about that interrupting Switch. I have a 1989 4 winds 241 Liberator 460 king cobra. I bought a brand new pack and 89. I did go through a couple larger Baja outlaws 30 to 4 with twins but I always kept my liberator. That interrupter switch is definitely a good idea you gotta watch so that you don’t burn them out and on my But even the mechanic used to tell me are you going to slam those things to get them they’re getting a year now you don’t. I set the timer for 89 octane gas I forget what it was but I left it there and I had my carburetor rebuilt and right at the perfect idol and when I switch from forward to reverse that interrupted switch just died sat down just for a second and I could shift my shifter very easily. Versus having the timing for 93 octane although recommends high test but I’m on the water they’re high test is only really like a good 89 octane. But that shift the interrupter switch it’s a great idea and it does help of course it dies the rotation of their propIs this for a split second while shifting gears so I agree with you and it’s not a crappy design it’s a good little feature. But what I’ve learned to is if you around with batteries and he tried to jump your batteries without disconnecting that for some reason it will burn that little interrupter switch out that happened to me twice I’m going to thing different was I was using a jump pack😊

We drained it, added a pump and filter and hired a pool company to maintain it. It stays much much cleaner now. No dirt at all. It was really bad.

Did you bypass the electronic shift assist (ESA) on the OMC engine? Or did you keep it? How does it affect shifting from neutral to fwd and rev?
@hotheadzmarine
2 жыл бұрын
NO Sir, its hooked up and working as it should.
@smallenginerepair7921

No do not bypass esa it’s on their for a specific reason and that reason is so you can shift back from fwd or rev to nuetral if it wasn’t their you would have to apply a good amount of force to get it back into nuetral and you might not even be able to do that, not to mention you will kill the clutch dogs trying to cram it in gear without esa, esa cuts out the motor for a split second while it engages gear!!
