Logically, It sounds like you are on the right track. The grounds are definitely an issue on these engines. I know I mentioned several things in the last video, but I also replaced the throttle position sensor after doing some research online. My Suburban has battery connections that screw in instead of clamping on the posts and even that main ground would get loose like an 1/8th of a turn and cause me to shut down. I would tighten it and come back to it and it would crank. I did this on the side of the road several times over a couple months before it finally stopped loosening. With all the ground issues on these vehicles, it would be worth changing out those connections for something more reliable (if yours is that ay too). Good luck bro! Keep us posted

You may still want to do fuel filter, and then check the fuel pressure just to be safe. I think you said before it may have sat for a while? and it may still end up needing a pump. The grounds, and battery are always good to check and address as well. Youre on the right track I think.

Good idea to get the tech problems addressed first. Wishing you luck in getting it sorted out soon. As usual, looking forward to your next episode.

Dang. Id start by load testing battery then checking alternator. Then replace fuel filter and could check fuel pressure. Ohh the smog guy probably said the IM readiness wasn't ready. Needs to go through the drive cycles. That definitely sounds electrical so battery, alternator then start checking grounds on engine as well as the grounds for ECU.

Coil packs or fuel filter. Spark plugs maybe too. Make sure your air filter and breather tube are all tight and not leaking air anywhere.

Want to share a issue I had with my 1995 Explorer thar no one was successful diagnosis until my neighbor did. This may or may not be yours but wanted to pass it along since you have given me so much help on camper builds: I had a intermittent starting problem with my 95 Explorer. Left me stranded many times. Until diagnosis was in my fuse box. One of my fuses was intermittent malfunctioning....yes simple $15 fuse fixed the issue. Again, not sure if this is your main source of your problem but may be a contributing factor. Joe from Smyrna Delaware

Dave, years ago, coils would heat up and cause weird issues, cool down, A Ok. I’m not that up on mechanical stuff like I used to be, and newer cars are all computers, And I stink at computers. Too bad you can’t get Scotty, the mechanic to answer, he’s one sharp dude, lol

Fingers crossed - check the ground strap between the engine and the frame.

Hi sounds like fuel pump reset switch sometimes they inadvertently get tripped. On your other Campervan open hood when place hands in front of you "right hand" should be a sticker describes exactly what you just said and says fuel pump reset switch. I know ones ford and one Chevy they're different but concepts are the same. I hope you can get it fixed you already put alot of work into it and if your catalytic converters are clogged they can make a vehicle act weird in alot of different ways.

Electrical is the worst. Grounds for sure. My truck went in limp mode and non start all of a sudden. Turned out battery was good enough for start but was actually bad and caused alternator to overcharge turned the diodes so check battery health and alternator maybe

Probably electrical. However, I had a vehicle that would start sometimes and not start sometimes....after a few thousand dollars a gas station Mechanic, not dealership or major auto shop, figured out it was the gas cap. Cap was not holding vaccum per manufacturer specs. I had a aftermarket locking gas cap on it. So got rid of that gas cap and bought an.OEM gas cap. Issued fixed!

Sounds like an interesting problem. Grounds are usually not supper easy to find ... but I wonder if you have any corrosion on the battery terminals, #1 ... and if you have blue/green electrolysis in the battery wires ... and the where they connect ... clean and or replace. Also check to see if the battery ground wire (negative in this case, and you have side terminals) .. is super clean .. down to metal to metal on the block connection .. then make sure you have the block grounded to the frame and firewall. When you mentioned the non/or slow start ... I don't know if it was slow cranking or longer than normal cranking and not starting ... IF it was/is slow the battery connections might be the issue. When ever a battery is tested, ... it needs to be fully charged before doing the load test (I have a tester that doesn't use a carbon pile (the best tester))... If it is long crank, and you keep getting the P1000 code .. then Id be looking with actual serial data with starting / running etc.. Ignition and fuel line pressure should still work fine with normal crank speed. .. also verify fuel filter too ... but if you under a long cruse and rig gets slow/lacks power .. filter possible. The loosing power to the PCM and getting the P1000 could be those connections. With 50 years working, some things take step by step .. Anytime the check eng light (or service eng soon) is "ON" it is a hard fault and usually a little bit easer to diagnose. It is also on with anything that can effect emissions (the light can go off and usually stores codes, .. if you are loosing them and causing a P1000 the stored codes could be being lost. It is so important to find the actual problems and fix them rather than guess and throw parts at it. That said, if you were to come to my shop, I'd have to be ready to check the codes when the light and/or issue is occurring before the new start causing the P1000. With GM .. address the first code first, then clear codes and try to see if more return and come back later.. then the next etc. .. That is the nature of the repair process for these older rigs.. with more data I may be able to give some educated guidance. You have my email ... Again, if the P1000 happens the pam loosed ground .. that is a good area to work with .. oh, make sure the grounds at the PCM .. sometimes a pin on the board will loose the group in the loom.. test with maybe trying to ground the case of the PCM and see if this works.. It may be best to have a true professional look at it .. OR ... see if your local junior college has computer control classes and see if they will use your rig as a training vehicle and find and fix the problem... those instructors are really sharp .. believe me. Ask for the shop teacher or that department/// not the counter or desk at some office that is not automotive. There are hot line services too.. pat
